GRAPHIC IDENTITY GUIDELINES
Use of the University Logo,Seal and Other Marks
 
W
estern WashingtonUniversity is proud of its national reputationfor academic excellence. A publiccomprehensive university, Westernis dedicated to providing thehighest quality undergraduate andmaster’s education in theNorthwest.A strong cohesive visual identityprogram provides a consistentpresentation of the University andreinforces Western’s reputation for quality. It unifies andstrengthens the University and projects an image of excellence which is important in attracting highly qualifiedstudents, faculty and staff.These guidelines, developed by a University Task Force andapproved by the President’s Council, detail how Western’svisual identity is to be used in a variety of print, electronicmedia and signage situations in order to present aprofessional image to the public. It will be of benefit to thecampus community in helping to establish clear standardsfor the use of Western’s logo and in conveying theexcellence in education for which Western is well known.Having these guidelines readily available to all members of the campus community will complete the task set byWestern’s Board of Trustees when they approved theUniversity logo on February 25, 1993.

ABOUT THIS GUIDE
A strong, attractive and flexible visual identity program isan asset to the University. It creates a unified, easilyrecognizable image for Western which enhances theinstitution’s public visibility. The Western logo is designedto be used for University stationery, publications developedby the staff or by academic and administrative units, andfor other identity needs such as signs, banners and nametags.Western Washington University’s visual identity programwas strengthened in 1992 by a task force comprised of faculty, staff and students which developed the University’slogo and more clearly defined the use of the logo,University seal and other marks. The logo was approved bythe Board of Trustees in 1993. These guidelines continuethat effort so that members of the campus community willhave information about how to use the components of thevisual identity program appropriately.
