My name is Ahmed Tohow, an Australian- Somali born. I came to Australia in 2000 with my family. I completed a Bachelor in Development Studies in 2006 at Latrobe University and continued studies in 2008 at RMIT University by completing a Master of International Development Studies. Whilst in Africa, I was working with International Organisations such as the United Nations, International Committee of Red Cross & Red Crescent, Medicine Sans Frontier, and Care International. I undertook coordinating and managing roles in areas of humanitarian emergency. Soon after my arrival in Australia, I worked for the Victorian Department of Education as a Teacher Aid and gained experience in the mental health field through my position at MIND (Formerly Richmond Fellowship) as a mental health support worker. From January 2009 until present I hold a Community Development role in the Transcultural Mental Health Program at ADEC (Advocacy, Disability, Ethnicity, Community). Furthermore, I volunteer with the Children First Foundation, an Australian based organisation assisting children world-wide in need of medical assistance.
