1.Note-taking is an important skill for success in any school setting. With-out it one would not remember important facts and data necessary tofulfill and assignment. A note-taking technique that I learned which Ithought was useful was visual mapping. Visual mapping is puttingwords into a sort of web to illustrate how they are all related or notrelated. If a lecture were on modern world history, your visual mappingnotes would look something like:Visual mapping is a viable skill in college because being a visualperson, it would be easier to remember things if they are mapped. Also, listening would enhance the memory used to remember thesubject explained. Furthermore, If a lecturer speaks 120- 135 wordsper min. and a student can write approximately 20-30 words a min, visual mapping would allow for pictures to be used in place of all thosewords since a picture is a thousand words.2.I learned that if you set a goal you have to write it down, you have towant it, and it has to be set in time, which I’ve never actually doneexcept once and I didn’t want it enough to achieve it. Specific stepsyou must follow to achieve a short or long term goal are: they must beput into writing-don’t just say it, they need to be set to be obtained bya certain moment In time, they MUST be realistic or do able-don’t sayI’m going to weigh 20 lbs. less next week- and you have to want it bad.3.It is important to have an efficient study environment because itenables you to study better and much more easily than if you had tofind a new place to study everyday. Some basic rules for creating andefficient study environment are to eliminate all distractions, have anarea designated for studying, have proper lighting and ventilation for

your comfort, and have a shoe box that contains everything you needso you won’t have to look all over you house for supplies.4.A study skill that made an impression on me, although I have not hadthe chance to use it, was the PARTRR method. It is a good idea to lookover things before you read them so then you know what you arelooking for or what you will be reading. The ask questions part seemstime consuming though; therefore, I would skip that part. The reviewpart is good because then you can see if you answered the questionsfor the reading and the reflection is only important if you are reading anovel for an essay; the reflection would be good to ensure you have allyour novel-related facts straight.5.Prioritizing is when you put what is most important first on your list of things to do; It is determining what can be done later and what NEEDSto be done NOW. Time management is being able to plan aroundevents and being able to make time for people and other importantparts of your life; it is also eliminating procrastination by making timeto do what you want to instead of doing that right before yourhomework is done. Time management and prioritizing are relatedbecause you have to plan things before you can finish them on time, meaning if you don’t include something in your schedule but it’s apriority, it will not be completed on time.6.Ability is being able to be good at something; for instance, you are a“B” student but you are able to receive “A’s”, meaning you do not ashard as you should. Attitude is the feelings and opinions you havetoward something, either neg/positive. Motivation is having the will ordrive to do something till the end or it’s done. Potential is thepossibility that if you work hard enough you could be or do somethingthat you want to. Having ability, attitude, motivation, and potential canlead to success because having all these traits in the right way meansyou have perseverance and a will to succeed. If you have a positiveattitude toward your work and daily life you are more likely to takerisks and succeed in your efforts to improve upon everyday matters. With constant motivation you can persevere even through the hardestmoments in life to where you want to be, for instance, if you werefalling behind in a class because of work, you would work harder tosucceed and make more time for school. Potential is important forstudent success because if you know what you are capable of andwhat you could possibly be one day, you are more likely to pursue yourdreams and what you want to do; you are more likely to “aim high”.
