DATA COLLECTION DESCRIPTIONUnited States Department of Education. National Center forEducation StatisticsCOMMON CORE OF DATA: PUBLIC SCHOOL UNIVERSE DATA, 1986-1987 SUMMARY: This dataset contains records for each public elementaryand secondary school in the 50 states, the District of Columbia,United States territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, theVirgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands), and Department ofDefense schools outside the United States for 1986-1987. Data werereported to the the National Center for Education Statistics by thestate education agencies. Records in this file provide the name andaddress of the school, the name of the school district or othereducation agency that operates the school, a type code for theschool, number of full-time equivalent classroom teachers, andmembership/enrollment by grade.UNIVERSE: All public elementary and secondary education agencies inthe 50 states, the District of Columbia, United States territories(American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and theMarshall Islands), and Department of Defense schools outside theUnited States.NOTE: The codebook is provided as a Portable Document Format (PDF)file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe SystemsIncorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such asthe Adobe Acrobat Reader.
