The Ability of Deuterium Oxide to Stabilize the Kinesin Motor Protein
Written by Kenji Doering. Kinesin stability is the key to utilizing this motor protein outside of organism’s bodies. Kinesin becomes unstable at temperature of around 45˚C (Konrad J. Bohm, Roland Stracke, Marina Baum, Martin Zieren, Eberhard Unger 1999). Deuterium oxide is a naturally toxi lic, though it has been experimentally proven to stabilize other proteins and products (Artur Galazka 1989, Julie Milstien, Michel Zaffran 2006, Collin S. Pittendrigh, Elizabeth S. Cosbey 1974). By suspending the kinesin in deuterium oxide we hope to increase the amount of time the kinesin remains stable for, as well as its thermal stability. Our ovalbumin work shows that the deuterium oxide stabilizes the protein fairly well, but so far our kinesin experimentation has thus been inconclusive.

I made this calendar as a gift to family members for christmas this pat year. I now share it with the rest of the world in electronic format. Each month has a different style for the time keeping portion and the opposite pages are art work that I made either in my library of stuff or exclusively for the calendar. One of the pages contains my comic strip series "Dingleberry".

I took a class on nanoethics and we had to write 4 papers for this class. This is the backdrop/setting presentation of the final one. My buddy Larry Herskowitz and I decided to write a play discussing various topics covered throughout the class. We acted this out during class during our allotted presentation time. We used a .ppt presentation as our setting and stage and incorporated several other useful computer components including .mp3's and video. The .doc of the transcript of the play can be found in my documents as well.

This is a short and quick presentation I made to pitch my ideas to a fellow Telomere expert Kelly Trujillo. Basically I wanted to show him that I thought it was possible to get awesome and revealing data pertaining to telomeric DNA at the ends of chromosomes. I demonstrate that it may be possible to gather information regarding structure, binding sites, etc of telomere DNA.
