“Because The Bible Said So”
Read 2 Tim 3:10 to 4:8
Rosella Shishido
I have three Bibles that I consider my avorites. The
Thompson Chain Reerence Bible
trained meto search the Scriptures. The Word in
Lie Study Bible
is loaded with biblical history, culture andcustoms o the ancient world. And then there’s my very frst Bible, a simple Gideon Bible thatbelonged to my Mama. This Bible has no study helps, not even a concordance. It’s aged andworn, with many verses highlighted in yellow because God spoke to me through them. The Bible is a lot more than just a avorite book to read. It is the Word o God, the ultimateauthority o our Christian aith. All Scripture is given to us by inspiration rom God. We believewhat the Bible says simply because it is His Word. Because the Bible said so. The Bible is a God-given instrument designed to equip us in our Christian walk. It shows ushow to live as ollowers o Jesus, which results in productive, purposeul and meaningul lives. It gives us hope, direction and encouragement. Like an instruction manual or any appliance,it can’t help us i it remains unread. It has been said o the Bible,
“This Book is the mind o God, the state o man, the way o salvation, the doom o sinners, and the happiness o believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding;its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.Read it to be wise, believe it to be sae, practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, ood to support you, and comort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s sta, the pilot’scompass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s character. Here paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the gates o hell disclosed. Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory o God its end. It should fll the memory, rule the heart, and guidethe eet. Read it slowly, requently, prayerully. It is a mine o wealth, a paradise o glory, and a river o pleasure. Follow its precepts and it will lead you to Calvary, to the empty tomb, to a resurrected lie in Christ; yes, to glory itsel, or eternity.”
PRAYER
