 All saints revile her and all sober men Ruled by the God Apollo's golden mean- In scorn of which I sailed to find her  In distant regions likeliest lo hold her Whom I desired above all things to know,Sister of the mirage and echo. It was a virtue not to stay,To go my headstrong and heroic waySeeking her out at the volcano's head, Among pack ice, or where the track had faded  Beyond the cavern of the leven sleepers:Whose broad hígh brow was white as any leper's,Whose eyes were blue, with rowan-berry lips,With hair curled honey-coloured to white hips.Green sap of Spring in the young wood a-stir Will celebrate the Mountain Mother, And every song-bird shout awhile for her; But I am gifted, even in November, Rawest of seasons, with so huge a senseOf her nakedly worn magnificente1 forget cruelty and past betrayal,Careless of where the next bright bolt may fall

Todos los santos la vilipendian y todos los hombres graves que se rigen por el justomedio del dios Apolo, despreciando a los cuales navegué en su busca a lejanas regiones,donde era más probable encontrar a la que deseaba conocer más que todas las cosas, lahermana del espejismo y del eco.Era una virtud no detenerse, seguir mi obstinado y heroico camino, buscando en elcráter del volcán, entre los témpanos de hielo; o donde se borraba la huella, más allá dela caverna de los siete durmientes, a aquélla cuya frente ancha y alta era blanca como ladel leproso, y sus ojos azules, y sus labios como bayas de fresno, y su cabello rizado delcolor de la miel hasta las blancas caderas.La verde savia de la primavera que en el árbol joven se agita celebrará a la Madre de laMontaña, y todos los pájaros canoros la aclamarán un día, pero yo estoy dotado,inclusive en noviembre, la más desapacible de las estaciones, con una sensación tangrande de su claramente raída magnificencia que olvido la crueldad y la traición pasadas, indiferente a dónde puede caer el próximo rayo- 2 -
