Every student enrolled in first througheighth grade in Georgia Public Schools willtake the Criterion Referenced CompetencyTests.

The CRCT’s are based on state standardsand are designed to measure the knowledgeand skills taught in Georgia classrooms.

Student test results will be provided to theschools and parents. The information isused to diagnose individual student’sstrengths and weaknesses and to gauge thequality of education throughout Georgia.
WHAT PARENTS CAN DO TOHELP THEIR CHILD PREPAREFOR THE CRCT:

Make sure your child eats a balanced, nutritious breakfast at home or at school onthe day of the test.

Make sure you child gets enough sleep eachnight before the test. Most middle schoolstudents require 8-9 hours to be at theirbest.

Talk to your child about relaxing and justdoing their best. Too much stress canhinder performance.

Discuss with your child how to besthandle panic should it occur. Panic canbest be controlled by concentrating onrational thoughts and on those areas ofa subject that the student knows reallywell.

Encourage your child to rereadquestions before answering and toproof read at the end of each section iftime permits.

GRADUATION COACH LETTER
We are now down to ourfinal 9 weeks of school. I wantto take this opportunity toencourage students to doeverything in their power toensure that they meet thepromotion requirementsnecessary to be promoted tothe next grade. Basically, those requirements includepassing classes and passingthe CRCT.Parents, I encourage youto closely monitor yourstudent’s progress and to doeverything in your power toassist your child in meetingpromotion requirements.Nothing is quite asdevastating to a child as notbeing promoted to the nextgrade level along with all ofhis/her friends and peers. So,please take the time to check your student’s progress on adaily basis. Be sure to ask your student about homework, establish a daily routine andprovide a quiet environmentfor completing homework, andensure that your student isstudying for tests andcompleting all projectassignments. The counselors and Icontinue to meet withstudents who are in a “down tothe wire” situation and areoffering support andencouragement in many forms.Students have been providedwith information regarding“must have” grades needed topass in each class this 9weeks, along with a “must dolist” of strategies, as well asthe opportunity to check ontheir grades and check formissing assignments once aweek. We ask that parentsplease contact your student’steachers, counselor orgraduation coach if you needany assistance or havequestions/concerns regarding your child’s progress andpromotion prospects. Thisfinal 9 weeks could be a “makeor break” situation for somestudents in regards topromotion. It is RMS’s goaland desire that all of ourstudents be promoted!Working together, we can helpensure your student’s success!Martha HufstetlerGraduation Coach
