STOP THE CRUELTY IN CHIEUTI
In the name of religion, a catholic “martyr” being celebrated, animalshave been tormented in the sunnytown of Chieuti for more than onecentury, with the involvement of thelocal parson: it would be important if the church would officially and clearlydisagree.From the 20th to the 23rd April 2011,we will be obliged, once again, towitness cruelty on animals, since oxencompelled to pull heavy charts (thepawns of a race competition aimed atwinning a prize consisting of a colouredcap and a chunk of cheese that will bepart of the final act of the “sacred” happening) are beaten and wounded tobleeding through sharp sticks bySt.George’s “horseriders” who causethem stress and pain in order to “breakthe tape”.Nor past and present denunciations or ongoing legal proceedings up to now changed theorganizers' mind since it's a matter of a tradition dating back to very old times.
