The City of Bristol is a vibrant economic hub. The population of the Cityhas grown in recent years and is projected to continue to grow for someyears. This strategy addresses the implications of this growth over thenext few years and identifies a number of potential actions that might beundertaken during the life of this strategy and beyond to ensure thatfamilies have access to high quality education provision within the City. The actions will be reviewed annually and specific schemes agreed inthe context of available funding and demographic trends. The Schools White Paper, “The Importance of Teaching” sets out radicalreforms to the education system. Local Authorities continue to haveresponsibility for the supply of school places and commissioning newprovision. However, expectations that Local Authorities will be theprovider of education services in the future are changing. As aconsequence, new provision will be achieved in a climate of partnershipwith a wide range of providers to meet the increasing demand for pupilplaces and the Authority would welcome comments and suggestionsfrom providers and others as to how best to address issues, particularlyin relation to the longer term trends.Questions and responses to this strategy should be e-mailed toMichael.branaghan@bristol.gov.uk
