Project: Camp________________________
Task: Develop and promote a week longcamp to teach young people about the nativeculture of your American Indian group.
Background: In 2010, leaders of your American Indian group have realized thatmany Americans, even those with an Indian heritage, do not have knowledge andappreciation of your native culture. Museums such as the new SmithsonianAmerican Indian museum have helped this cause, but more outreach is needed. One idea is to create a camp where young people can come and experience thesetraditions first-hand. You are part of a team assigned to create this camp andmarket it to potential campers. In this packet, you will find a list of decisions that you and your team must makeand specific activities you must create. The challenge, however, is to keep thebigger picture in mind. Your camp will include basic skills and arts, but must havean overall theme that teaches about your American Indian group’s relationship tonature and the land. You must also teach about your group’s ancestral andmodern history. Each group member will need a completed copy of this packet for the next stage of this project.1.
