Author

Lorraine Heath

Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals, press releases, articles, and computer code, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She’s been writing about them ever since. Her novels have been recognized with numerous industry awards and have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

I like how all the heroes in this series are each unique. Not just the same type repeated again but with different colored eyes or something. I also liked the familial bond in this one.

You'll have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit in order to enjoy Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel.
Don't get me wrong. It is still fun, but there are quite a few moments you'll think 'well, that's really unbelievable'.
I liked that both characters know they are not what they told each other. No, they didn't tell the truth right away, but there is no some huge surprise as far as who they are go. She knows he is a cop even though he didn't tell her and he knows she might be in London for revenge.
Her reason and the way she managed things are heartbreaking.

As the son of a convicted thief, James Swindler grew up on the streets as one of Feagan's lads. Little did he know that he would become one of Scotland Yard's most respected detectives. Assigned the task of watching Miss Eleanor Watkins to determine whether or not she constitutes a threat to a peer of the realm, James is determined to use all of his skills to seduce and deduce her secrets. Likewise, the mysterious lady is just as intent on keeping her secrets even as she finds herself falling for the sinful scoundrel.

Starts out like many historical romances with an intriguing mystery and an apparently angst-free relationship. Then, out of the blue comes the surprising twist and the books takes off from there.

The hero and heroine are both very appealing characters and it is impossible not to admire their strength and resilience in overcoming adversity.

The suspense plot is well-developed even though the secret society bent on debauchery is nothing new (in fact Elizabeth Hoyt's Maiden Lane series is better in this regard), but the climax and resolution are exciting and satisfying.

All in all, an excellent read and the shocking revelation makes it well worth the effort.

This fourth in the Scoundrels of St. James series did not rise to the level of the other three. Although the plot was very clever and sprinkled with surprises, the love story just didn't grab me. Oh, well.

The fourth book in Lorraine Heath's Scoundrels of St. James series.Wow, this series just keeps getting better and better. The first two books ranged from forgettable to just OK. The third book didn't make it to my "buy new" list and I got it on PaperbackSwap. That book was where the series really improved. Midnight Pleasures is just as good. The last book had a lot of emotion. This book has a little less emotion but has some very interesting conflict that, honestly, surprised me. I can't remember the last time that happened in a romance novel. And the heros dilemma is just really interesting. No spoilers, this is in the book summary. The heroine is out to avenge her sisters death and the hero is an investigator/policeman and thus out to stop her. Really interesting conflict between the two...If you're interested in this series, start with the third book; I don't think you'll miss anything by skipping the first two.

After the death of her sister, Eleanor Watkins, comes up with a plan for revenge. When her sister goes into London for the season with hopes and dreams of finding a husband and a more secure future for her family, but comes back to them broken in body and spirit. After her death, Eleanor looks through her journal, and after finding the true reason of what truly happened to her in London, she is bent for revenge, against the one man that is truly evil in every respect. But as she follows him around London, she keeps running into a handsome stranger that makes her heart beat faster and her knees weak with his touch. Never knowing who he truly is. James Swindler, is sent on a mission, to follow Eleanor Watkins, after hearing that there is a threat to one of the "Lords " lives. Knowing that there must be a good reason that they send him on such a mission, he investigates, wanting to earn Eleanor's trust. What neither one of them expected was to fall for each other, and then when a certain event occurs, they will be both tested in ways they would never have imagined, but will their love be enough for the danger ahead?I have always loved reading Lorraine Heath, and have been reading her since her cowboy series (which are great by the way) and I just love her regency romances, and this one was one of my favorites of hers. It was filled with so much mystery and intrigue, it kept me in suspense throughout the whole of the book, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to suit me!! My summary is pretty vague, but I didn't want to give anything away, which you should find out yourself, I am certain you will be just as pleased yet surprised at the turn of events that occur throughout this story. I can't say too many times, that romances like this I can usually guess what is going to happen, however, this was very different. I applaud Lorraine Heath with just a job WELL DONE!!! It was such a great romance, with the perfect mix of sensuality and excitement to suit you. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series, especially if they are as good as this one was for me!!!
