      I really enjoyed this to start with, the description of moving to a new town and house, and the development of relationships with people there. But when the main couple got together I found myself getting irritated by all the stupid behaviour, and the "secrets" weren't really that shocking and there was no good reason to keep them hidden for so long! I do like Freya North and have read others, but this isn't one of her best!

      I picked this book up at the book fair and was happily surprised by it. The story focuses on Tess, a woman with a secret and a child, who becomes the house-sitter for Joe, a successful man with his own secrets. Their relationship comes closer together, pulls apart and generally bumps along the road of what we love in a good romantic chick-lit. Enjoyable.

      Whilst I generally avoid the whole genre of "chick lit", Freya North is always a class above the rest. If you have read any others of her books, then this will be a welcome more of the same. A page-turner, yet gentle and satisfying - the thing I love about her books above all else is that the characters are so likeable and kind without being sappy. This novel in particular had a well developed sense of place (Saltburn) which made me want to visit for a coffee some time soon.

      The book opens with Tess and her daughter Em hiding from someone who is banging on their door. Tess then takes a job as a house sitter for Joe, a world travelling bridge builder. She takes her ancient car, her meager belongings, and heads to Saltburn and escape. When she gets to the house, she discovers a large seaside home complete with handsome owner and large scruffy dog. Tess and Joe work out her work schedule and Tess settles into a routine. She works on the house, meets the locals, and starts to develop an attraction to Joe. Joe on the other hand, has a girl in every port where he goes to work. He starts to find comfort in having Tess at home for him when he returns, but he is not ready to give up his life and freedom. There are other forces at work in the relationship; both have secrets that will cause problems.I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see Tess become part of the Saltburn community and become less fearful about her life. She builds a whole new life for herself and her daughter that may or may not be permanent. Her secret is always there ready to come out but the reader likes Tess and hopes it is something that can be resolved. Joe is a nice guy who sometimes behaves selfishly, especially when he starts to have feeling for Tess but continues his freewheeling ways. His secret comes out earlier and doesn’t add to the nice column but there is a twist that is revealed later. Both Tess and Joe have to put the past behind them and work towards happiness. The telling of the routines of their lives helps us understand them and what their issues are. Loved the book, loved the ending

      Secrets was a really interesting book and I'm definitely glad I read it. I was very intrigued by the premise and it sounded like a book I could really lose myself in and enjoy. I love books that help me relax and that are easy to read- Secrets was certainly one of those books!

      The opening of the book caught my attention and from there, I knew I would have no problem reading to the very last page. I needed to know what was going on and I wanted everything to work out for these mysterious characters! They were well written, believable and easy to empathise with. Tess, while admittedly silly and impulsive, was a fun character and I found it easy to like her. Joe definitely took some getting used to and I still don't think he's the nicest guy around but I grew to accept the way he was and his nice side completely shone by the end!

      Was Secrets amazing? Not really, but it was very good. It had one or two things that bugged for. I think it was dragged out too much and could have been condensed down by at least a hundred pages. I also really wasn't feeling the relationship between Tess and her daughter. It felt like Em wasn't really there most of the time and Tess didn't really seem to engage with her. Other than those two things, I thought it was an immensely enjoyable book and at no point was I bored or contemplating stopping.

      Secrets is certainly worthy of four stars and I am eager to read more of Freya North's work in the future as I do think she has talent.

      When I go on holiday I try and find at least one book to read that is set in the place I will be visiting so I was really pleased to not only find that Secrets is set in Saltburn-by-the-Sea but that it's also by an author whose books I have enjoyed in the past. The author's love for the town really shines through.Secrets is the story of Tess, a young mother who flees her home in London for a house-sitting role in Saltburn on the North Yorkshire coast. The house belongs to Joe, a man who goes away a lot for his job and he needs someone to look after not only his home but also his huge dog, Wolf. Initially Tess and Joe seem to wind each other up but they soon get to know each other and they find something special between them.I thought this was a lovely read. As you might guess by the title, Tess and Joe each have their secrets and there's a (mostly) gentle unburdening as the story goes on. It's sometimes a bit explosive too because the realisation of a secret kept can often seem like a betrayal.I seem to be drawn to books where the characters just go about their normal lives and that is what Tess has to do while Joe is away. I enjoyed her trips into Saltburn, discovering the pier, the cliff lift and the seafront, along with the hills that she pushes her daughter's buggy up and down. I also enjoyed the new friendships she made and the sense of a community. Secrets is an easy to read book but covers emotions and feelings in some depth too. I felt very satisfied when I reached the end.

      Benda Joyce portrayed Regina Shelton as a girl grown to woman very well! I love how the story ended up and how she described a couple's life and their issues. Although those things seems laughable, there should be understanding between family. Secrets--any secret, whatever its size--and fears can become the very thing that can break any kind of union.
