About this ebook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In this pulse-pounding and thrillingly sensual novel, Lara Adrian returns to the mesmerizing world of the Midnight Breed, following new characters into a dark future where an uneasy peace can unravel into war—and a great betrayal can mask an all-consuming love.

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Lara Adrian's Crave the Night.

The first half of the book was slow and I found it easy to put down and hard to pick back up. But once I got past halfway, it had all the drama and appeal of Lara's earlier novels.

    Edge of Dawn
    3 Stars

Edge of Dawn, book #11 in the Midnight Breed series, can be considered a reboot as it opens 20 years following the events of the previous 10 books and focuses on the children of the original warriors.

Fast forwarding into the future is usually a big no-no for me but in this case it works. Adrian has reinvented her initial world by reinforcing basic concepts and adding innovative tenets, such as a governing body comprised of both human and Breed members, rebel groups fighting against the new order, and a powerful, otherworldly enemy bent on destroying the Breed. It is also nice to catch up on the "old guard" and to see where their lives have taken them.

Unfortunately, the rest of the book is disappointing. The plot revolving around a conspiracy to annihilate the Order with UV technology takes a back seat to the romance, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if the romance between Mira and Kellen hadn't fallen completely flat.

Mira has grown into a hard and not particularly likable woman, and it is impossible not to mourn the loss of the sweet girl from the earlier books. Kellan is an unremarkable hero and the explanation for his disappearance is completely illogical if Mira's visions are inevitable, then why would he bother faking his death. Their chemistry never manages to compensate for the flaws in their personalities.

In contrast, the secondary characters are much more appealing. Lucan's son, Dare, is very intriguing in his attempts to emerge from his father's shadow. Corinne's stoic son, Nathan, never allows his emotions free reign until he apparently meets his match. Chase and Tavia's children have obviously inherited some of their father's recklessness and there are several other Breed offspring of interest who will probably flesh out additional books in the series.

While this particular installment has its problems, Adrian's world building is fantastic and the premise of a new conflict between the Breed and the Atlanteans is original and exciting. I look forward to seeing what the Midnight Breed has install for us next.

I must admit I skimmed the sex-scenes,especially the chapter-long ones, and could have been quite happy with less in that area. Otherwise, I enjoyed the vampires and the world Adrian created around them. I would have liked to see a bit more of the politics and action, more of the world that provides the backdrop to the sex in this novel. Kellan was almost too much of a headstrong, defeatist idiot, though to make the plot work without more non-romantic development, I get that he had to be like that, just as Mira had to be so hot-tempered and undisciplined that one wonders how she ever managed to finish training for the position she holds in the beginning of this story. A lot of the characterization came across as contrived, not just the main characters, but the plot made up for them enough for me to give this one 4 stars.

I'm not really sure what I was expecting with this time jump in the series. I did like at first how the author handled Mira and Kellan's story. Overall it was good. I'm not sure how I like this new big bad. It almost seems so contrived to help continue the story and handle the time jump. The verdict is still out on if the rest of the "new" series will be any good. Right now I'm still willing to give it a shot.

Mira was a favorite of mine in earlier books so I was really looking forward to this novel and was not disappointed. Throws you a lot of curves and keeps you guessing - & - reading - Hard to put down!

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Edge of Dawn through LibraryThing, and I am so glad that I did. I do remember reading a previous book in this series, and while I had enjoyed that one I hadn't picked up another. Edge of Dawn was a thrill ride, and despite being further along in the series I was able to follow it very well and it captured my attention and never let go. I think one of the things that made this book so compelling was the two leading characters. Adrian created such memorable characters in Mira and Kellan who faced such huge obstacles to being together but their connection got them through. I loved following these two characters as they found each other again, tried hard to let the other go, were willing to put others before themselves, and ultimately couldn't let each other go. These two characters and their struggle really sold the book for me and re-energized the series for me. I definitely plan on going back and reading the books that I had missed. Overall Edge of Dawn was an amazing read that I would most definitely recommend.

Although this book certainly stands on its own (apparently, it is a reboot of "The Midnight Breed" series, which I have not read), I feel like I may have been more connected to these characters if I had read earlier titles. It appears to be an interesting world with a unique take on the vampire myth. My biggest problem with this title is that several situations were set up, and if followed through, would have gone against expectations and would have been really interesting turns-of-events. However, those situations were resolved, easily, and almost immediately. Ultimately, didn't love it, didn't hate it.

This is the first book in the new story arc for the series. As with all new story lines there are some rough edges that need to be smooth out. I have read some of the other reviews for this book and the more negative I think are a too harsh. Well Mira isn't the strong kickass warrior through every sentence in the story she shows that she is capable of taking care of her team and others. She is human and a breedmate after all so she is allowed some weakness. She would be the endearing character she is if she wasn't capable of resisting her mate. I was very glad that she got her happily ever after. I am not completely happy that the author killed one of the Order and then resurrected one with Tess and Rafe's telepathic ability. I mean it does solve the problem of how to punish Kellan and still keep him alive and free. In the end Mira does show her warrior badass and redeems herself with flying colors.Kellan Archer has grown up and become a warrior and member of the Order. He is a natural leader and honorable Breed. Kellan is all alpha male and tortured hero. I am surprised that he goes off and pretends to be dead because of one of Mira’s visions. I mean has none of these people talked about the visions that they received and how they really played out. I have a hard time thinking that they haven’t figured out that there always seems to be more to the vision that what the viewer sees. Kellan is also tenacious when he is trying to solve a problem. His one mistake is becoming to enthralled with Mira when one of his men is a greedy bastard that can only think of himself. I was glad that things worked out in the end.The one thing that people seem to have a problem with about the story is the introduction of another supernatural race. Well if you have vampires what makes you think that there aren't other races on the planet that aren't Homo sapiens. The Atlanteans where already being discussed in the last few books before the story arc ended so it isn't like they just suddenly became part of the universe. I was glad to see the author going forward with this part of the plot. I had wondered if there was going to be any more about these enemies of the Ancients. It will be interesting how this plays out in future books.Ms. Adrian has done a good job of transitioning to the new arc while mentioning the characters that we reads have come to love so much. I am certain there are a number of exciting stories coming about this new crop of warriors and the children of the Order Elders. I am looking forward to future stories in this series.

Lara Adrian delivers again. I like where the Midnight Breed series is now going. I was concerned the series was just going to end but she does know what she is doing. Edge of Dawn follows Mira and Kellan as they journey through the twists and turn of love. As with all her books, plots and characters are well developed and engaging. I have read them all so far and will continue to read them. Keep them coming, Lara.I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

*HUGE SQUEEEEEE* this is going to be reviewed after a good night's sleep.

People of the world, if you enjoy this series, the BDB or IAD, this book does not disappoint.

Lara Adrian totally reinvented the series with this book for various reasons. Some will be revealed in this review (slightly spoilery) and some you'll have to read to know.

Do you remember that little girl in Canada, that was wearing a veil to protect her eyes from exposure, or more importantly, to protect other from exposure to her eyes? Mira? Well... this little girl is ALL grown up now.

20 years have passed since the Breed's exposure to the human world. There's cohabitation and.... peace. Kind of.

Mira is a captain of an Order warrior team, and is haunted by losing her love, Kellan Archer, eight years prior, to an explosion in a facility booby trapped by the rebels. Kellan was the grandson of Lazaro Archer (remember him?) Little does Mira know that Kellan is alive and well after being rescued on the verge of death.

Mira and Kellan's paths cross when she's placed as the escort for a recluse scientists to a peace summit. Her little road trip from MA to DC is ruined before it started by, what do you know, rebels, who kidnap the scientist and later on her, when she goes in pursuit after them.

“There’s nothing to worry about.” She forced a mild scowl and lightly shook her head, deliberate in her misunderstanding. “I’m on babysitting detail, not a mission. Nothing’s going to go wrong.”

To learn why Kellan is with this group, why they kidnapped the scientist and how things end up, you'll have to read the book.

“After everything I’ve done,” he whispered harshly, “not only today, or eight years ago, when I left, letting you believe I was dead, but since the first day we met, Mouse. Ever since then, since the very beginning, you’ve stayed with me. You’ve always have my back.” “I always will,” she replied. Her voice was quiet, but her eyes were resolute. “When you love someone, that’s what you do.”

    This is spoiler enough.

The book starts with Mira, and unfolds while giving us glimpse of almost all the Order members and their breedmates, which is like a reunion of a sort. I loved that about this story. We also get to meet the offsprings of the Order members - a real treat. And they aren't little kiddies, either. We're talking a bunch of warriors in their early 20s.

The last surprise in the book the new(ish) enemy the breed has.

Adrian, as per usual, has slowly unfolded all the little details that will drive you nuts wanting to know while reading, and with her unique writing of this series, badass while emotional (love it!!), she has made me swoon, go all gooey, love, tear up, rage (a lot) and enjoy this great new installment to the series.

I barely managed to stop reading once or twice to highlight a couple of quotes. Love it when a book makes me forget that.

All thanks to Delacorte Press and NetGalley.

After the end of the last book in this series, I was ready for this to be over. I had a discussion with a few friends about where the author could possibly take these upcoming books. Our basic conclusion was that she could only drag it out.

Wellllll...I was pleasantly surprised with the plot here and the crop of new issues facing The Order. Edge of Dawn takes place 20 years in the future. All those babies the breedmates were popping out in the series? Yep, they had a purpose.

This book was one of the better in the series, in my opinion. It had action, suspense, romance, and wonderful characters. I loved Mira and Kellan, their struggles, and their love. It was heartwarming, if not entirely realistic, to hear how long they'd waited for each other, and I loved their reunion.

As with all other books in this series, the action is there, nearly from the get-go, so it's a fast-paced, at times heart-racing read. I found myself speed-reading at one point just to get to the goods of what was happening.

The only way this book could've been better was if the author has spared us talk of weeping, juicy petals. I loathe flowery language, especially in a PNR where the heroes are all giant badasses who kill people for a living. Just call it what it is and be done with it.

A few other things cropped up that have been constant in previous books -- the author's use of "ripe/harsh curses" (most of them under their breath) rather than just saying the words, and starting nearly every piece of dialogue (I'm exaggerating) with, "Ah, Christ/Heroine of the Moment's Name/Fuck/etc." Not a deal breaker, but something I wish her editor would bring up to break the habit.

All in all, a great start to a new chapter in this series, one I'm very interested to see where it goes. Nathan next, perhaps?

Wow, this book is fantastic. Set years after the fall out from Darker After Midnight. This book focuses on Mira and she is everything that I expected her to be! A warrior in the new look breed warriors, she has been fighting for the cause for years. Unfortunately, she has been pretty unhappy and angry since the man she assumed would be her mate, Kellan, was killed by human rebels. Then he returns, a traitor and she doesn't know what to do. All the old feelings remain but he betrayed both her and their people, letting her believe he was dead. When it looks like Kellan has been betrayed by other factions, they have to work together to prevent almost certain war... but will they be able to keep their hands off each other?

This book was so blooming brave! I loved the new-look Earth and all its new perils. I enjoyed seeing old favorites but I have a feeling they only appeared so much to ease the transitions for fans. This story arc does not belong to them; it belongs to all of their children. I loved it and I loved reading about all these new young faces. This is the only thing that concerned me; they are all so blooming young it may feel like reading YA in a very violent world!

I did, however, want to punch Kellan in the face repeatedly during this book. He hadn't done right by Mira and he seemed to want to keep treating her badly whilst trying to keep her safe. Seriously Alpha Men.... just ask what your women want! When they got together it was amazing and I loved the entire tale.

It's an exciting new era in the breed books and I cannot wait for the next installment :)

This was another great book by Lara Adrian. I wasn't completely convinced that I was going to like this book. I thought she had the perfect end of the series ending at the end of book 10. I read many books that had a perfect ending spot only to see the author continue on only to fall flat. I was expecting this to be the same, but I've gave Adrian the benefit of the doubt, because let's face it, she hasn't let us down yet.

She completely reinvented the series with a new list of all new characters, without giving up on the old favorites who play as more secondary characters.

I'm a little concerned with how this book ended. I'll leave it at that, so as not to have any spoilers. I'll will pick up book 12 and see where she goes with it.

First, the blurb doesn't leave anything to readers' imagination. It almost tells everything there is to know. It says Kellan Archer mysteriously disappeared, never to return while every character in the book thinks he is dead. Weren't we supposed to think that too? At least I won't spoil anything for other readers.
Second, what a reason to stay away! He saw in Mira's eyes he will be convicted of treason and conspiracy and put to death and he left to spare her that. And what does he do then? He starts doing all those things. I know nothing Mira's eyes show can be changed, but really. He left right after that..
Third, the book starts twenty years later. Either I waited too long to read this book or it is really missing the connection to other books. On its own it's ok. If someone were to read this as stand alone knowing nothing of the world, it would be ok. To me it was missing the connection other books had. We meet the Order's kids (now adults). I assume the next stories would be theirs.
And fourth, I know Kellan is hot, but Mira forgave him everything so fast I had to go back to read it again. After eightyears. Eight. Not six months or a year.
Now I don't know how to rate this. Mostly it is the connection to other books which bothers me the most. It felt as a beginning of a new series with a new kind of enemy.
Maybe I will rate it differently in the future.

I have read all of the books in this series and this one was as awesome as the others. We fast forward 20 years in this new storyline focusing on the children of the warriors. Mira and Kellan were kids in the books when the Breeds were outed. Now they are warrriors along their parents fighting to keep Breeds and humans living in peace together. Well they were, 6 years before this story begins Kellan saw his future in Mira's eyes (her gift) and decided to save her the fate he saw so he lets everyone believe he died in an accident. Being that Mira is his mate he is unable to stay too far away from her so they are brought back together. I loved development of these characters, I lovedd that the warriors of the first arc where all here. I really hope the little teases for Nathan and the other "kids" are the next stories, they were enough to tease you into wanting more. Great Book!

This review and more can be found on my blog, The Muses CircleMy Review: Christine Feehan. Sherrilyn Kenyon. J.R. Ward. Lara Adrian. What do these authors have in common? Quite a few things, actually. They have not only written some of the most memorable alpha male vampire heroes known in the romance genre, but also have successful, long running series. Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon used to be on my top 5 favorite authors list. Feehan's Dark series and Kenyon's Dark Hunter series consisted of books that were so good that I would buy them automatically just because their names were on the front cover. But recently I've found myself not doing that so much anymore. Series that I once found so unique and exciting have become predictable while others have gone off the deep end due to authors trying to create new twists to keep the story lines fresh. Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series is up to 27 books so far with Feehan's Dark series trailing at 23-- and as much as I hate to say it, they both should have ended many books ago. I can only imagine the pressure that fans put on authors to keep a series going and there are just as many authors that rather stick with what they know then try something new. Then there are those authors that surprise you, such as J.R. Ward and Lara Adrian. Since this review is about Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series, I will save my comments about J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series for another time. What I love and respect about Lara Adrian is that her Midnight Breed series technically ended with Darker After Midnight, book 10. Of course I didn't realize this until a couple of months ago when I started reading it in preparation for Edge of Dawn, book 11. When it finally started dawning on me that she was wrapping things up the closer I got to the end, I remember thinking, wow, an author that knows it's time to pull the plug and end on a bang. After all, I don't think I am the only one that was getting tired of Draco (the SOB needed to die ages ago even though I get he was the main villian) and she was running out of Breed warriors to write about (at least those that fought under Lucan). So if the series ended with book #10, what is Edge of Dawn, book #11 about?Edge of Dawn takes place 20 years after the end of Darker After Midnight. Vampires are now out of the closet to humans and Lucan and the rest of the Breed have been working diligently for 20 years to create a peaceful coexistence. Mira, the adopted daughter of Nikolai and Renata, is now fully grown and a captain of her own squad of Breed warriors. She is still suffering from the loss of the only man that she has ever loved, Kellan. But when she is sent on a personal mission and is taken captive by a mysterious rebel leader, she soon realizes that the man she thought she had lost to an explosion years ago may not be dead after all.Even though Edge of Dawn lists as book 11 in the Midnight Breed series, technically it is the first in a new series that just so happens to be set in the world of the Breed. All of the children that were introduced towards the end of the series, such as Lucan and Gabrielle's son Dare, Nikolai and Renata's adopted daughter Mira, Chase and Tavia's twins, Aric and Carys, and the parentless Ethan and Kellan make an appearance. This is why Lara Adrian is brilliant. She was wise enough to know that any more then 10 books would be pushing her luck as far as trying to find a new hero and also stretching the plot out. But, who says the world of the Breed has to end? And what better way to continue on and to keep it fresh then to jump 20 years in the future, add a new villian/threat that must be destroyed, and use the kin of the previous main characters in past books as the new heros/heroines for future books. Absolutely brilliant! There is not much more for me to say. Lara Adrian delivers. Even the shortened length of Edge of Dawn works. Normally her Midnight Breed novels run around 350 to over 400 pages. Edge of Dawn is only 288 pages which concerned me at first but it was perfect. You could read Edge of Dawn as a stand alone but if you are a fan of her previous 10 novels in the series then you will love how she revisits previous characters and also gives us glimpses of future ones to come. One secondary character that was introduced in Edge of Dawn that I absolutely became enamored with is the alpha Breed cage fighter Rune. HOLY SH*T is he H.O.T! Even his name is sexy! I'll probably have to wait another 10 books before his story gets told, but at least I have something to look forward to!Mia @ The Muses Circle

I found this book enjoyable, and it works well outside the series as well ( i have read the first three, but had no problem jumping right into this on). I enjoyed how strong both characters were and how well they matched each other. I was intrigued by the plot and the set up for the rest of the series, and Lara Adrian also does a good job of introducing other characters readers would want to know more about.

It's been 20 years since the humans learned of the existence of vampires - a world changing event for both sides that is now referred to as the First Dawn. Mira who was raised in the Order is now a grown women and a warrior in her own right. She is still mourning the death of her bond mate Kellan.I love the Midnight Breeds, especially the early books. With the last book (Darker After Midnight) I did wonder where the author would take the series. I have to say I was excited to hear that the story was moving 20 years into the future. What great way to keep the series fresh and alive.Edge of Dawn is a great read. Sensual and suspenseful with edge of your seat action, I loved it. I really enjoyed Mira & Kellan's journey, although Kellan's stubbornness was frustrating. With this story we are introduced to new characters but the original Order make an appearance as well. It was cool getting to see the next/new generation included into the storyline. I believe both new and old fans will enjoy this installment.

Yep, you guessed it. I haven't read the other 10 books in this series, but have them all on my wishlist. However, I got a chance to read this one and took the dive. It can be read as a stand alone, but I warn you, you will want to go back to book one to see what you have missed in this world. You will not be lost if you didn't, so be assured. These are the start of the stories for the kids introduced in the previous novels, so it is a good place to start if you want to start later. The characters in this book are somewhat typical for a PNR. Alpha male who you'd like to kick in the arse for being stubborn and making bad decisions for everyone around him. A female who can kick arse and doesn't take crap from anyone, even the one she loves. It might be a bit familiar, but I do like the way these characters are drawn out. I really rooted for both and couldn't wait for them to come together.I give this book 4 stars. The action and the world in general held my interest. I do want to know more about their origins and what had happened before this book. It wasn't necessary, but I knew things were revealed as well have been revealed throughout this series as to those origins. This book, itself also revealed an important tidbit. One that I know will play center stage, if not the next book, but in books to come. I can't wait to get fully into this series.

In a word, overwrought. If you like your vampire romance short on humor, long on sex, packed with political intrigue, complete with mortal heroine with poor impulse control and short temper and ready tears moping after an angst-ridden hero all smack in the middle of disintegrating race relations... this is your book. It's not mine. Set two decades after humans learned - in a particularly bloody fashion - that vampires exist, Edge of Dawn features Mira, a mortal Breedmate who's still mourning her lost, might have been mate, Kellan, a Breed who was blown up in a rebel trap. Only thing is, he's not dead - he's joined the rebels. Circumstance has thrown the two back together at a crucial moment in Breed-Human relations, but their relationship is doomed... Yada, yada, yada.... I like vampire romances. I like J.R. Ward, whose recommendation is plastered across the front of this one. I very rarely quit a book. I managed to make it 1/3 of the way through this one, and it's been sitting, staring at me for a week. I can't bring myself to pick it back up.

Edge of Dawn is the 11th book in the Midnight Breeds series. I have read the entire series so far and all but one of them I rated 5 stars. It is such an enjoyable Paranormal Romance series and Edge of Dawn is a wonderful addition to it. Now this book can be read as a standalone and it is the beginning of a new plot arc. The story starts off 20 years after the last book ended and we are seeing the children are now grown up. Mira has become a warrior and is still trying to get over the death of Kellan. So when she is kidnapped by Rebels she is shocked to find out who is the leader of that group. A group she and the other Breeds have been fighting against fro a long time. Kellan never thought he would see or speak to Mira again. It was because of her gift he pretended to die and left the Breeds behind. Now Mira is back in his life and his feelings for her are as strong as ever. Yet he knows that future he saw in her eyes is going to happen… Everything about this book made it so hard to put down. I enjoyed it all. The plot was fast moving and there was a few surprises. I love the romance between Mira and Kellan and I enjoyed seeing some of the past characters make appearances. I am so looking forward to this exciting series continuing!

Can a series jump 20 years and focus a love story on a new group of warriors, face a different type of challenge and still maintain the same feel and quality as the prior books in the series? Yes it can. Especially when we already know a small handful of these warrior as kids from the prior books and many of the others are children of the couples we already know. Lucan is still in charge and all of the couples focused on in prior books are either on screen or mentioned. The Breed (vampires) had just been outted at the end of the last book and there has been plenty of fallout since then. Peace is now on shaky ground as rebels seem to do their best to disrupt everything. And of course there are some humans that will never believe a different (scary) species has a right to exist on their planet.Mira--we knew her as the 9 year-old who had to keep her eyes veiled or those who saw them would see a scene from their future-- is now a warrior captain. 8 years ago she’d seen the man she loves, Kellan Archer—he’d been the sullen 13-year old who came to the Order with his grandfather after his Darkhaven had been wiped out--killed in a warehouse explosion and her hatred of the rebels is intense. It also gets her in trouble and as punishment is assigned to escort a brilliant young inventor with a lot of phobias, to receive an award at the upcoming GNC Summit. Both she and the inventor are kidnapped by rebels and it turns out Kellan is the leader of this band. There’s plenty of action and emotion, especially love and anguish, as she fights to reach and keep her man who had been watching her from afar for these last 8 years, believing it would be best for her if he stayed away. And now that he’s broken so many laws as a rebel, things are looking pretty tough for a future. One of the things this author does to keep the series fresher is to change the major back story focus every few books. This one is trying to achieve peace with the humans while facing a lot of restrictions on their weapons and when they can feed. But much later in the story we’re given a new focus that sounds challenging and Lucan has had enough with following other people’s rules that aren’t getting them anywhere.I’m really glad we got to see the couples from books prior to First Dawn (the vampire come out) and it appears that some will be in and out of the future books while others might have larger roles. We’re introduced to the son of Lucan and Gabrielle and I can’t wait to get his story! The story grabbed me right away and it was read in one sitting.Read for review for Library Thing.

Edge of Dawn is the eleventh book in the Midnight Breed series by Ms. Adrian, and the action takes place twenty years after the last book in this series. All of these books are classified as paranormal/fantasy romance featuring descendants of an alien race that feed on human blood. These aliens are all male, adorned with skin glyphs (similar to tattoos) and have supernatural strength and speed. These Breed males can only mate with human females known as breedmates that are recognized by special birthmarks. Once a Breed and breedmate are together as a couple, the human female ceases to age and becomes the source of sustenance for her Breed husband as his blood sustains her prolonged life and agelessness. I've read, and generally enjoyed, all of the books in this series. However, Edge of Dawn just failed to pull me in. I rather enjoyed seeing the new generation of breed offspring from previous couples introduced in past books as adults as well as the grown-up Mira. The enjoyment ended with the postwar Breed-Human peace initiatives and the Global Nations Council or GNC (similar to the UN but with broader powers). Past books have dealt with rogue Breed males and the one surviving ancient being used to bring about a series of first generation Breed males. (Ancients had unsurpassed strength and speed; their offspring or first gen Breed males had slightly lesser strength and speed with decreases in strength and speed with each successive generation of Breed males.) Mira and Kellan's story had just enough twists to make it interesting, but I think there was just a bit too much going on in Edge of Dawn. The story fast forwarded too many years since the last book not to mention the many twists and conspiracies presented for it to be interesting for me. If you enjoy paranormal/fantasy romance with a vampire twist, then the Midnight Breed series and Edge of Dawn may be perfect for you.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: Lost love returns after years of being presumed dead. Will he lose or regain his heart’s desire?Opening Sentence: Humans. The Review:Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series was a new world for me. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading the previous 10 books but this world is very gripping even as a stand alone book. There were times were I felt I was missing a glimmer to a previous story but it didn’t impede the progression of Mira and Kellan/Bowman’s story.Mira grew up under the guidance of the Order and later joined its ranks as a Captain over other warriors seeking to maintain harmony between human and vampire worlds. If that isn’t enough to make her a true woman to be feared, her eyes can tell the viewer their future. Unfortunately, it is this gift that send the love of her life, Kellan out of her life when he sees his death and her heartbreak.Kellan/Bowman seeks to distance himself from Mira in order to save her this future fate but when she is injured during one of his Rebellion ops he can do nothing but bring her to him. Kellan then must deal not only with the present circumstances but the ever present reminder that his fate is creeping closer and closer to his present. As a result of Kellan’s rebellion op, Mira and Jeremy Ackmyer’s disappearance raises alarm in Lucan, leader of the Order. Lucan puts Nathan, a trained assassin, on their trail with orders to find Mira no matter the cost.Woven into the middle of this love story is the reality of political machinations being played out for a summit to be held to mark the continued peace between the humans and vampires. This book was a truly enjoyable read and I will keep my eye out for book 12 in the series. If you are looking to fill a void left while your next paranormal series has a new release then I believe you would enjoy visiting the world of A Midnight Breed series.Notable Scene:The cage thundered with violence as the fight resumed, but Mira ignored the specacle of the area. Her sights were locked on her target. Her own need to punish boild like acid in her veins as she stalked Rooster through the throng. She thought of Kellan’s final moments as she watched the rebel sympathizer cackle and hoot, he and the other humans cheered each terrible strike, frothing for more Breed bloodshed. She didn’t know at what point she’d drawn her blades from their sheaths at her back. She felt the chill of custom-tooled metal in her hands, her fingertips light on the scrollwork of the daggers’ hilts. Felt her instincts itching to let the blades fly as Rooster shot a sudden glance her direction. He saw her, realized she was coming for him. Something flashed in his eyes as they met hers. Panic, certainly. But Mira saw guilt in that worried gaze too.FTC Advisory: Delacorte Press/Random House provided me with a copy of Edge of Dawn. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:*ARC received from NetGalleyMIDNIGHT BREED is one of my very favorite Paranormal Romance series and I auto-pre-order each new release. After finishing Sterling's book and hearing that Mira's book was next, I was both excited and a bit scared... I just wasn't sure how a spin-off would sit with me, and yet I wasn't ready to leave the world by any stretch of the imagination either. When I got the ARC from NetGalley and finally had a chance to sit down with it I breathed a sigh of relief, and shouldn't have been worried at all in the first place. Not only did Lara deliver an amazing book, Edge of Dawn is quite possibly my favorite Breed novel to date. It was wonderful!Having known Mira since Renata brought her to the Compound as a little girl, seeing her all grown up as the captain of one of the Order's main fighting groups brought both a sense of wonder and pride. Not only is she a Breedmate, and therefore human, not Breed, but she's female as well and being that highly ranked is just something that doesn't happen. The interim events with Kellan were a bit of a surprise. I sort of had a feeling that Mira might end up with him despite their age difference back in the earlier books, but I was very shocked at the dark turn Lara took with the story and how she unveiled and unraveled it all in Edge of Dawn. It was gripping, emotional, frustrating, maddening, and romantic all at the same time. I liked how the world was changed in this book as well - humans know about the breed now, wars have been waged because of it and lives on all sides have been lost, there is a tentative kind of truce amongst the many factions and yet, as usual, an evil lurks, threatening to cause even more upheaval. All of the changes allowed for me as a diehard MIDNIGHT BREED fan to have something a little bit different, but still have some closure and a bit of a fix with the reappearance and new positions of my favorites as well. I really enjoyed the heavier, darker, more intense MIDNIGHT BREED and cannot wait to see where Lara takes us with this new generation and their fight against the new big bad!LITERAL ADDICTION gives Edge of Dawn 5 Skulls.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.REVIEW: Oh…my…God! I have read every single book in this series and I do have to say, this one is by far my favorite. While I was a bit apprehensive about seeing Mira as a grown woman, seeing in the last book she was still a little girl, I do think Ms. Adrian did a phenominal job in explaining the jump in time. The building of feelings between these characters was very believable and the angst behind why they weren’t together was top notch. The plot kept you engaged and the ending about tore my heart in half until Ms. Adrian managed to make it all better. I really don’t think I can praise this book enough, so instead I’ll summarize the entire thing with a few choice words. Edge of Dawn is an engaging and raw masterpiece that will have you both on the edge of your seat while reading and flaming the heat of desire from your face as you go. Ms. Adrian has done it again and if I could I’d give six stars for a FANTASTIC read.
