- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. It was a book of the speech that Martin Luther King Jr. made August 28th, 1963. The main message or idea of this book is to treat everyone equally. Nobody should ever be mistreated by the color of their skin, and it is important for readers to be aware of this. The way that the speech, or writing, was separated onto distinct pages worked great. A couple of my favorite pages were pages 7 and 8. The portion of the speech included and the illustration made a beautiful point. Sectioning off parts of the speech onto separate pages is beneficial to allow readers to have a bit of a break in between portions of the speech- and time for them to process the speech. The illustrations were beautiful. On pages 19-22 when the pages are split up into four and the locations of the United States where people can be free, are described. Those four pages were so meaningful and I believe, will be very beneficial for readers to be able to understand different perspectives during this period of time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed this book for a few reasons. The information provided is important for children to learn, but it is delivered in a child-friendly way. The illustrations help the story flow. The big idea is to help children learn about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision for America.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I didn't really read this Kindle book but read the text online after watching the speech on YouTube. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of my heroes, and it seemed appropriate to listen & read his words today in honor of his memory on MLK day. Sadly, so much is still apposite 50+ years later. This passage in particular struck me:"We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality."In the intervening years, this aspect of racism doesn't seem to have improved very much as the events of the past 6 months have shown. I just hope that people recall this earlier section from the speech:"But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force."
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Review: I loved reading this story. It was full of information and inspirational words. There are paintings that are in the story which adds a nice touch to make it enjoyable to look at while you read.Summary: This story is about the speech that Martin Luther King Jr. made on August 28, 1963. It is known as one of the most powerful and memorable speeches in history. This book was written by his daughter Bernice A. King.Argument: I really liked reading this historical book about the speech that Martin Luther King Jr. made. I have heard the speech before but never knew the background knowledge or what happened on that day. I think that children of all ages would like to read this book because it is full of information. This story teaches the reader about equality, freedom, and peace.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Summary: This children's book is about Martin Luther King's speech "I Had A Dream" at the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington. This was an extremely important event in history and one of the most memorable speeches.Review:Martin Luther King was such an important person in history. He not only changed the rights of blacks but he even risked his own life in the process. All children need to know about Martin Luther Kings speech. This book shows children to always go after their dreams no matter how farfetched they may seem.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked this book. This book provided a lot of information on the civil rights movement in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advocated strongly for. This book is written in the form of his "I Have A Dream" speech along with other factual information. The illustrations in this book are very powerful, you can see the passion in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s face. The illustrations also enhance the dream that MLK Jr. had for America. I think that the main idea of this book was to provide information on the civil rights movement and the "I Have A Dream" speech.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Summary: This children's book is about Martin Luther King Jr. and his "I have a Dream" speech. It is part of his speech verbatim-split up page by page and matched with painted pictures that truly describe and emphasize what he is saying. The pictures are vivid and realistic. The book also has a CD to listen to that is his actual speech from Washington D.C.Argument: I think this a great book for a variety of age groups. This speech is a piece of history and therefore can be used in any classroom at any time. There is no age limit to this book. The first, reason I like this book is its vivid pictures and images. These painted images truly explain the words of King's speech and make his speech come to life. For example, on page 3 the speech is talking about all men being equal and that we as a nation have to rise up and aspire to this. The picture on this page shows all the men and women who came to Washington D.C. and who are standing up together fighting for what they believe in. The second, thing I liked about this book was the read-along CD. The difference between this CD and any other read along was that this was the actual recording from a place in history. I listened to the CD as I read and really felt like I was standing in the National Mall. It is a great experience to read something but hearing this speech puts you back in time. It also helps with children who are auditory learners. The last thing I liked about this book was that in the back the whole speech was listed. I liked having the entire speech to reference and not just part of it. This gives older children more to read and the full effect. I think the theme of this book was to spread equality and justice to every human being. It was also about fighting for equal rights of all Americans-especially African Americans.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5?This is one of my absolute favorite books. The focus of this book is to illustrate the famous "I Have A Dream Speech." What's special about the illustrations is there are 15 separate illustrators who each depicted a page of the speech. Each of the illustrators are recipients of the Coretta Scott King award. All the illustrations were beautiful, but my most favorite were the two illustrations that showed children of all colors and religions playing with one another. I also enjoyed this book because it gave a lot of background about what was going on at the time. The foreword is by Coretta Scott King herself and then the back has information about the artists. This added to the power of the book. The message of this book is to continue the dream that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had on that day, August 28, 1963.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a book that is the full text of Martin Luther King's speech. It is illustrated by Kadir Nelson. The main theme of the book is the hope for a peaceful interaction between anyone and everyone. Paired with colorful illustrations, the book is an enjoyable read.I really enjoy this book. I feel like it does the original speech justice, and makes it more approachable for all readers. I think the speech is a powerful read with strong language. For example, I think it is important that various parts of the country are included in the speech.I really enjoyed the illustrations. For example, they are all brightly colored. I find the bright colors to maintain the uplifting nature of the speech. I also find them detailed. They include idiosyncrasies of people's faces. It is an important historical read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Kadir Nelson is the only choice for illustrating this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5To me, this speech is timeless. There will never be a time when we Americans are living the full realization of our U.S. Constitution, so every generation should be aware of the advice that MLK gives in this speech.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nelson's magnificent illustrations rise to the majestic eloquence of MLK's words. Inlcudes the full text of the speech and a recording on CD.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Beautiful illustrations paired with the amazing speech of Martian Luther King Jr.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book would be great for all ages, but particularly appropriate for pre-k to 5. It familiarizes children with Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech by highlighting the exact points and decreasing the lengthy speech into one that would keep the child interested. The illustrations were done in oil paint, which made the character and people live-like
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I shared this book with a group of kids at the recent book fair and they haven't stopped bugging me about readying this book for checkout. It's a beautiful book. Kadir Nelson, with his starkly realistic paintings, brings us up close to the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous speech. Mesmerizing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5All Ages! This is an amazing depiction of Dr. King's I HAVE A DREAM speech of 1963. The illustrations are beautiful, realistic, multicultural, and moving. The CD of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech provides an opportunity for a read aloud by the author, which is awesome!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, word-for-word. This is probably one of the most powerful speeches every delivered in America and every child should hear it and know its meaning. The illustrations in this book are also magnificent and moving. This book may not be a good book for younger grades because the vocabulary used is quite advanced, but it would be excellent possibly for 4th-8th graders.
