I am fast becoming an Ann Spangler fan! After reading two of her other books I was anxious to receive this one for review. If you have ever wondered if you are missing something deeper in the stories of the gospels this is the book for you. In it the authors enlighten the reader on the customs and life of biblical times as well as rabbinical teachings. The language spoken was much deeper and richer than what can be conveyed in modern translations. Things that we think are vague examples those of that time could relate to on a deep and personal lever. Discover the depth and richness of the gospels and appreciated the far-reaching, life changing words of Christ all the more. In these pages you will discover a well of knowledge and you will close it with clearer sight and deeper understanding of the precious living word of God.Thank you Zondervan for this review copy.

What a great book! I received a copy for free and expected it to be good - but I also expected it to be a simplistic introduction to the Hebraic Roots of Christianity...and it is a GREAT introduction, but what I wasn't expecting was how much I would personally enjoy it - I was reading it moreso in order to be able to recommend it to others that are looking for an 'easy-to-swallow' book - instead I found that as well as a book that kept my interest from start to finish and had me talking about the book often to friends about insights the authors were sharing. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the the Hebraic Roots of Christianity - whether you are new to it or if you've been reading/studying it for some time - a great book that is easy to read and each page is worth the turn!

I expected this book to be a moderately interesting but perhaps a little dry exposition of Jewish customs and perspectives. I certainly wasn’t prepared for it to be so winsomely and powerfully written, full of insights & “aha” moments that have truly changed my perspective on being a follower of Christ.Chapter by chapter, the authors go through what a first century rabbi was like and how Jesus fit into the religious culture of Israel, the importance of friendship, Jewish prayers & blessings, Jewish feasts & other customs, and the view of the Kingdom of God in that time.More than just being a review of history & culture, this book focuses on how the information of history and culture should bring us to a fuller understanding of Jesus, a richer love for Jesus, & a closer walk with Jesus. Again and again they paint a rich picture of first century Israel, and then use that picture to bring us to insightful applications such as, “God’s goal isn’t simply to fill the world with people who believe the right things. It is to fill the world with people who shine with the brilliance of Christ.” and “If you want to be part of God’s redemptive kingdom on earth, don’t ask how little you can do, but ask how much you can do to please your Father in heaven.”Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus truly is a wondrous book that I both thoroughly enjoyed and that God used in my life. It’s a treasure. Read it.
