About this ebook

Fashions fade, but death is eternal in Deadly Threads--Agatha finalist Jane K. Cleland's irresistible new blend of vintage and vengeance.

Josie Prescott has begun hosting classes at her antiques and appraisals shop, nestled in the cozy little coastal town of Rocky Point, New Hampshire. The next class is on building a great vintage clothing collection. But when guest lecturer Riley Jordan is late, Josie begins class by reaching under a display table for a dazzling pair of Chanel heels. But instead of the heels, she finds Riley, dead. When it looks as if one of Josie's employees may be involved in the murder, she teams up with the local police chief to investigate, one clue, and one fabulous vintage accessory, at a time.

Josie Prescott has just opened her new boutique called Prescott's Vintage Fashions. With trusty Gretchen heading up the new venture, Josie is looking forward to having a friend, Riley Jordan, as a speaker. Riley comes from money and has excellent taste in vintage clothing. When Riley is found dead in Josie's building, Josie is determined to find out who killed Riley, and why. The most obvious suspect is Riley's husband, a cheating chef who seems to really like her money but likes other women's attention just as much. There is plenty of vintage clothing tidbits scattered throughout the story and well as some button history. I never saw the actual killer coming, total surprise to me and, as usual, once it is explained it made perfect sense.I'm still a ways behind on this series but I do enjoy it and will keep reading the books.

Riley Jordan owns a top-notch vintage clothes collection and she’s going to share her knowledge of shoes and handbags with workshop students at Prescott’s Antiques & Auctions in Rocky Point, New Hampshire. Instead, Riley winds up dead; business owner Josie Prescott finds her friend’s body, strangled by Riley’s own scarf. Rumors had been circulating about Riley’s husband Bobby – a celebrity chef -- and his extra-marital affairs, so no one’s surprised when Riley’s will cuts him out of her vast fortune. Instead, her will – written and signed the day she died – gives her fashion collection to a museum and large endowments to two charities. It also sets up a fashion-education foundation that Josie is named trustee of. Part of Josie’s job is to catalog Riley’s clothing collection. That Inserts Josie into Riley and Bobby’s household and into a position where she can learn more about their life and, possibly, Riley’s murder. Although Josie is an experienced amateur sleuth, she is always by-the-book, turning over any information she gleans to local police. She is also a confidential source for an investigative reporter who is willing to report what he knows to our heroine. Most often, Josie knows much more than the police do. In Deadly Threads, she has a great reason to snoop: it appears one of her employees, who says she saw a silver car leaving Prescott’s parking lot the day of the murder, is in the killer’s crosshairs, quite literally.Jane K. Cleland is a terrific writer, one who can write a great story that hangs together nicely, and is peopled with believable characters. Josie is a wonderful heroine – she’s smart, tough, and isn’t likely to do anything stupid to get herself in trouble. She also has a perfect partner – a boyfriend who’s supportive but doesn’t get in the way too much and doesn’t steal her thunder.

This is a series set on the coast of New Hampshire about Josie Prescott, owner of Prescott’s Antiques, who is nosy and cannot pass a murder investigation. A good friend of Josie's, Riley Jordan has the bad fortune of being strangled at Josie's business. Then Gretchen, an employee of Josie's is shot and then her apartment falls victim to an arsonist. As usual, in a Jane Cleland novel, the whys and wheres of antiques are explained. This story centers on vintage clothing, and the stories are interesting, but the research seems extensive. The characters are fun and the setting very brutal at times.
