I bought this book because I love MaryJanice Davidson's laugh-aloud Betsy, Queen of the Vampires series (except for Undead and Unfinished, which I HATED). Rise of the Poison Moon did not make me laugh aloud. I'm very glad I started with book six because I can skip books one through five. I think I would have found this book even more depressing had I read the earlier books. If I'd checked it out from the library, I wouldn't have gotten past the first few chapters. I made ithis the book I keep in my tote bag so I won't be bored out of my skull when I'm stuck waiting in a store or for an appointment and it still took me over a year to finish it. If you've already read one or more of the earlier books, there is a ending, but too many bad things happen to call it happy. The excerpt from the book in a new Jennifer Scales series reminded me of sequels to horror films where you can't feel good about the one or more survivors from the first one because of his/her/their fate(s) revealed in the sequel.Need I mention that I wasn't enticed into seeking out that new series? If you love angst and bad happenings, by all means, read Jennifer Scales. If you're looking for something fun to lighten your day, steer clear.
