I loved Slade and Jane. They were both strong characters with a lot of personality. The story moved the overall plot of the series along a little bit. I enjoyed the banter between the two and liked seeing the other characters involved. However, this book missed the mark for me to completely love it which is frustrating because McCarty is one of my favorite authors. First, the steam level was almost nonexistent. Their first scene ended so abruptly that I thought I was missing some pages. Second, there were parts that didn't make sense. I missed the explanation of why Jane finally decided to be with Slade. There was a part at the end that flew over my head about why they were running out of time. Third, and last, the ending was so abrupt that I again thought I was missing a chapter. Hopefully the next book will clear up some of my confusion.
