It was pretty good, I found the words "level five lucid dreamer" repeated way too many times for my liking... really we get that's what they are just say they were dreaming - which she finally did later in the book thankfully.. The characters we good. I liked the way they interacted.

Jayne Ann Krentz is an excellent author and her writing in Falling Awake is a great emphasis on that fact. This story is a great one and a book that will keep you engaged throughout. Its so amazing that Isabel and Ellis Cutler interact and get along in the story and the ending is beautiful. I really love an author who takes the time to explain why a character did something rather than ending with nary an explanation.

Dream analyst, Isabel Wright, has a unique talent for interpreting Lucid dreams and is particularly interested in the dreams of a subject known only as Client Number 2. Said client is Ellis Cutler, an agent with a classified government agency interested in the use of lucid dreaming for crime solving. When Isabel loses her job, Cutler's agency sends him to recruit her, and the connection they felt in their dreams manifests in reality. However, a series of violent incidents soon alerts them to a threat that could jeopardize both their work and their lives.

An engaging romance and a solid suspense plot, but the excessive focus on esoteric concepts related to dreams and dreaming detracts from the book. While the idea of using lucid dreams to solve crimes is very intriguing and reminiscent of Kay Hooper's Bishop series (without the psychic element), it is underdeveloped and lacking in specific details and explanations on how it actually works.

Ellis and Isabel are similar to many of JAKs hero/heroine pairings. He is dark and broody and she is smart yet quirky. Their chemistry is established early on in their dreams and is only enhanced once they meet in person.

While the identity of the villain is pretty obvious early on, the final showdown is intense and exciting and the inclusion of some of the secondary characters, even unexpected ones - Farrell, Davis and Vincent all play a role, is a highlight.

Overall, this is an entertaining read but not as good as some of JAK's other books mainly due to the obscure dream elements.

The level 5 dreaming was interesting. The characters were well developed. I enjoyed this novel

Dream analyst Isabel Wright has her suspicions about anonymous Clients Number One and Two - suspicions that involve government agencies and serial killers. When her boss dies suddenly and his successor hands her a pink slip rather than the promotion she'd been promised, Isobel's plans for a secure future evaporate. Like Alice down the rabbit hole, she's thrust into a whole new world. Good thing Client Number Two, Ellis Cutler, turns out to be a lot more useful than the White Rabbit. No surprises here, but if you're a Krentz fan there's not much to be disappointed about, either.

"What do you mean, you're on thin ice financially? Are we talking serious debt?"...Isabel cleared her throat. "I made some investments.""Please tell me you didn't do something stupid in the stock market.""I'm not in the market.""Did you buy a house?" Tamsyn looked relieved. "That's usually a good investment. I'm sure you'll be able to sell it."************************bwhahaha. Oh, for the halcyon days of 2004.The story is fine. Light, not particularly memorable. The lucid dreaming thing was a little baffling at times, which may be why JAK went on to having her characters have flat-out psychic powers following this book. I re-read it because it's one of those weeks when I really need a book that doesn't require any emotional or mental investment from me; it's definitely not among the author's best works.

Falling Awake was a fun, escapist read...er, listen. It had a good amount of suspense, but the romance elements were definitely there, too. The climax was good, but there was almost a full CD of resolution afterwards. What I really did like about this audio book was how short the tracks were on the CD - it was so easy to go back if you missed something or wanted to hear something again.

This book was a little complicated at first, as you really don’t understand what is going on, and the terms were foreign to me. But if you stick with it and read on, it was a great read. It was kind of typical girl meets boy, instant sizzle that carries on through the book, and you know they are going to get together at the end. On the other hand, the interesting part was in the details. Plot redone? Maybe. But a woman who analyzes dreams teams up with a guy who is an agent/ venture capitalist to catch another dream agent. I can honestly say that isn’t one I have seen before. If you want a schmaltzy read with a some suspense tossed in, this was a good one. =D

Isabel Wright works at intrepreting dreams for some lucid dreamers, whose names she doesn't know but at least one of them is a presence in her dreams, but when her boss dies and she gets sacked bodies start acumulating. Ellis Cutler is one of those men. She needs to find out if she can trust him or if he's behind the deaths.
