About this ebook
This is the third of the Burly and Grum Tales. Burlington Bear and Grum the groblin are great friends. It's Burly's birthday and he's decided he'd like to have a lazy day on the beach. Little does he know however, that a bank robber is also there trying to hide some gold coins he's stolen. Throw in a detective and his daughter Tara, a crab with attitude called King and the Toolkit Gang and poor Burly has more than his fair share of surprises!

I live in Essex in the UK with my son and two cats, Puzzle and Bud. Like so many people I've always written and had lots of ideas for stories but never thought I would ever be published. In January 2011 I helped to set up a writing group (Writebulb) and found out about Smashwords from one of our guest speakers, Penelope Fletcher. I remember being totally blown away by the fact it was possible to self-publish and a couple of weeks later finished a book that I started some years ago. I've now published 3 books and two short stories in the Burly & Grum Tales one one story, 'Unlucky Dip' for young adults. One of the books in the Burly & Grum series 'The Secret City' is now a finalist in the People's Book Prize Awards so keep your fingers crossed! I will continue to write and self-publish - it's been hard work, but I've learnt a lot and met some wonderful people along the way and I have a great sense of achievement. If anyone loves to write and is hesitating about self-publishing I would definitely say give it a go! Kate :)

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the third book in the Burly and Grum series and it is as much fun as the others. Again Kate Tenbeth has hit the mark on filling this book with fun, excitement, mystery and drama for kids of all ages 4 to 104 and beyond. In this adventure it is Burly’s the Bear birthday and Mike the Angel wants to give him the best birthday ever. It starts out with Burly and Grum the Goblin taken to the beach by Mike. They have never seen the beach or ocean before. The three of them have lunch and then Mike has work he has to do for his “Boss” so he leaves Burly and Grum for a quiet day on the island. It doesn’t take long for them to get into trouble because of course the deserted island isn’t deserted. The book ends with a big birthday party for Burly, with all his friends there, Grum the Goblin, Mike the Angel, Max the young Human, and some new friends they meet on the island.I loved this book as much as I have all of her books. Again, she has given us a new fresh storyline with a fell good ending and a fun adventure. I have reviewed all of the Burly and Grum books and you can read them all on this site.I recommend this book and all of her books to anyone who wants a fun short read. All of her books are around 40 pages long but she sure knows how to pack a lot of fun in a very short time. It has wonderful illustrations by Rob Jones…I wish there were more, a lot more and Kate’s witting is great.Kate Tenbeth also gives a donation to the Born Free Foundation for each book that is purchased. So how can you go wrong…buying her stories not only do you get a fun filled story that will make you smile (a lot) you are also contributing to a great foundation.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54 STARSThe Birthday surprise is a cute Burly & Grum Tales by Kate Tenbeth and Rob Jones (Illustrator). It's Burly birthday and Mike his friend wants to take him to the beach for the day. Mike is a Angel who lives in the forest. He drops off Burly and Grum on to a deserted island all by themselves with plans to bring others later in the day.Of course Grum finds trouble to get into. In fact he releases a bank robber from what he thinks is hunters.Burly and Grum make new friends on the island and have a good time at the beach. The pictures are cute and fit the story very well. It has humor, talking animals, bank robbers, police detective and his daughter, angels and groblins. Something for everyone.I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Librarything.Publisher: GMTA Publishing; 2 edition (July 18, 2012) 111 pages ASIN: B008MULNDS
