About this ebook

Teeth
After you get your second set of natural teeth - after your "baby teeth" fall out,- you must learn to take care of those new natural teeth during the rest of your life.

If you don't take care of them, by having regular treatments by your dentist, you know what will happen...those natural teeth will either fall out or your dentist will remove them.

At that point your life will change. Why? Because you will then have to wear dentures for the rest of your life.

Dentures change your life in many unexpected ways. Let me say that again: After some or all of your natural teeth are removed and dentures are put in your mouth you immediately realize your life has changed dramatically .

For example: you soon discover you have to learn new ways to: chew, what to eat, what not to eat and how to keep your dentures in place when you chew, sneeze, talk, cough, smile and kiss.

In short, oral concerns will take over your life as you are forced to learn to cope with and keep control of your dentures.

The chapters in this book are designed to let you scroll through them and look up answers to many of the questions about: dentists, dentures, teeth, oral health, mouth sores and pain caused as a result of wearing a denture in your mouth for the rest of your life.Terry Talks Series this is # 3 of 4.

Chapter 1 - History of Dentures

QUESTION: Am I The Only One Who Talks about Teeth, Dentists & Dentistry?

Most people don’t talk about teeth or dentists until they have a toothache. Then they are forced to see a dentist. But even then they don't talk about their teeth, the dentist or the cost. My point is: your smile is the first thing people notice when meeting you. How often do you smile in a day? What do others see when you smile?

I’ll tell you: They see your teeth framed by your up-curved smiling lips. Therefore, the teeth people see when you smile are a very valuable asset to you!

Do you invest your money to protect & preserve that asset? If not, why not? Your attractive, healthy teeth and mouth help you have an attractive healthy life. It seems that nobody Talks about Dentists or Dentistry, except me!

Strange isn’t it...no one ever talks about going to the dentist Why is that? I have been visiting my dentist ever since I was ten years old. I started getting to know dentists and dentistry after my two front teeth were accidentally broken.

The kindly dentist my folks took me to (during those no money for the dentist days of the Great Depression in the 1930s) made my first partial denture at what was then a great expense to my cash-poor parents.

The Dentist examined my teeth and told me I had inherited soft teeth from my parents. It seems I had a mouth full of teeth with cavities (caries) that always needed the attention of a dentist. Therefore, over the years, I’ve had to endure lots of tooth repairs while sitting in a dentist’s chair.

But, no more. The dental care I’ve had for the past 85 years allowed my (always soft) natural teeth to survive and serve me well for many years…but I now have a full upper denture.

Wearing a full denture is without a doubt a life-changing experience. I had to learn to do lots of things in different ways. For example: eating different foods, chewing, biting, talking, sneezing, singing, removing my denture to keep it clean, every day - and more.

In short, having a denture always in your mouth is something you should avoid if you can.

So, if you still have all of the natural teeth you were born with (except baby teeth), I urge you to go to your dentist regularly!

The care your dentist provides, though quite expensive, will surely make your natural teeth last much longer; therefore well worth the cost of dental care.

Tell all of your friends and relatives about the way you care for your teeth. Talk with them. Urge them to do the same. Tell them you do this to avoid ever buying a denture because you have learned that
