A Little Less Conversation The phone kept ringing, but Penny was more than willing to put with the noise. It was either her second or third day in the hospital, she wasn't too sure. Most of her recent memories revolved around bright lights in her eyes and the searing pain in her side. The deep cut hadn't hurt too much before the doctors started to tinker with her,Penny knew that much, thanks to the semi venomous ooze that dripped from Kingston Cobre's coils as he wrapped her up before delivering her to the tender mercies of St. Sara's. They kept asking for her name and address, which the hijacked driver of the car that brought Penny there was at least able to provide an answer for one of those questions.
By the time the cops arrived to offically take her statement, she was resting somewhat comfortably in a bed near the ER and alert enough to tell her story without accusing anyone of causing her injuries.Penny was just as concerned about protecting Tiffie as she was Kingston.
The kid was a terror but seeing your older stepsister get sliced by the knife meant to cut your birthday cake wasn't something she would wish on anyone, even her hideous stepmother Giselle who was probably on the other end of the still ringing phone line.Ring number ten was beginning to catch the attention of the staff passing by the room that could hold two but was only occupied by Penny for the moment.
With a sigh,she picked up the reciever.Hello?
What the hell took you so long to answer the phone, tell me that! It's not like you're busy doing something useful over there!
Yep,it was Giselle, who hadn't yet visited the hospital, claiming that Tiffie needed her full attention right now. While that was sort of reasonable,Penny knew full well that Giselle had plenty of nanny agencies on speed dial in case of emergency and plenty of money to bribe them to send an army of desparate for cash ladies to coddle her precious angel.
Her father didn't stop by either,no surprise there.I just woke up,Giselle. How's Tiffie doing?
It was easier to be direct with Giselle when her gin soaked breath wasn't right in your face.
She's fine, considering the horrible ordeal we've been through, and why your father and I are paying extra for security in this building when vicious maniacs can just break down your door and attack your family on such a special day is beyond me!
Penny listened to her ramble on,as a nurse stepped in with a tray of what looked like breakfast. Her bed was parked right in the farest corner,by a large window, with a curtain ringed around it.Since she was right in front of the bathroom, this set-up suited her well.
After a few more self indulgent sentences,Giselle got to her reason for calling. How soon can you be dressed and downstairs?
Uh,what?
I need you
