About this ebook
Life has never been normal for twenty-one year-old Gemma Lucas. She knows nothing about her past and has been haunted by monsters in her nightmares and in real life. She feels disconnected from everyone until the first day she cries. After that, nothing in her life is the same.
As her emotions slowly surface, she starts experiencing love, happiness, and anger. But they leave her confused, and she can’t decide whether to embrace them or run away from them.
Her life only gets more complicated when she meets Alex. Sexy, arrogant, and secretive, Alex can get under Gemma’s skin like no one can. But she’s drawn to him by a connection she seems to have no control over. She also swears she's met him before—in her nightmares.
Gemma’s mind is screaming at her to stay away from Alex, but her body is begging to be near him. But the closer she gets to him, the more she realizes he knows more about her than he's letting on.
She needs to figure out what’s happening before she ends up dead. But the only person she can turn to for answers is Alex.

Reviews for Shattered Promises (Shattered Promises, #1)

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked the path of this story, it got suspenseful near the end, and the characters, but I got frustrated at how long it took for things to be explained to both Gemma and the readers. And it intentionally dragged for the purpose of holding suspense, but I found it annoying. The physical scenes, mostly foreplay, were well-written and not overdone, and the sexual chemistry was zappy in the right way. I'm not sure that I'll continue because it was just okay for me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am not normally a paranormal fan...but this book seemed to be different for some reason. I did enjoy it a lot.
There was a lot of tension in it and it felt like it was mostly setting the stage for the next book, which is fine. I just wish I had the next book now! - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Blech. About the only good thing I can say about this is that the writing itself wasn't awful. (I'm talking mechanics here, the pacing was terrible.) Alex, the main love interest, is rapey and is so moody he might as well be bipolar. Our protagonist, Gemma, reacts strangely to situations and is difficult to relate to. Characters ramble a lot. Despite her supposed interest in Alex, Gemma still seemed pretty willing to jump a secondary love interest's bones, which made me dislike her even more. (Not that I would blame her if she did dump Alex, mind you, because I spent most of the book wanting to claw his eyes out.)
By the end of this book, I was skimming. Can't say I'll be picking up any more of Ms. Sorensen's books.
