About this ebook
the magicians of form offers a new way of understanding form, and a means of uniting different subjects. using form as our guide, we are able to remove barriers between disciplines, and to perceive the patterns common to all. natural forms, created forms, and theoretically-derived forms all share certain characteristics. there is a link between a flower growing in a field, and a fractal flower grown in a computer. there is a special relationship between a dancer isolated in space, and a crystal shimmering in the matrix. finally, our search into form takes us from the intimate stage of the small theater to the grand stage of the universe where the stars themselves are the participants.
as technology advances, we will gain a better understanding of the forms we already know, and discover many new forms. the microscope and telescope are technological advances, which have extended our visual sense, enabling us to decipher the structure of crystals, plants, and galaxies. our expanding knowledge of computers and electronics allows us to produce new types of musical form and provide valuable insights into fractal and topological form. what will new advances bring us, and who will be the next magicians of form? these are questions for the future.
