Imagine waking up one day and meeting Adam. First man on Earth. Adam, who along with Eve, is responsible for Original Sin. (honestly, I've never much believed in the concept of original sin-I think of Eve as more of a liberator. She and Adam are responsible for giving us knowledge and the ability to question everything, solely because they ate from that tree)Now Imagine being able to spend seven days with Adam learning, having questions answered, and generally having your eyes opened up to amazing truths.WOW. I have to admit, I'll never think about things quite the same way again. Personally, I've never been one to believe in the ritualistic trappings of religion, being more interested in the message than anything else.Reverend Speights does a wonderful job of taking Biblical ideas, endless questions, and spiritual ideas and explaining them in ways that will make the reader question his/her own beliefs. My advice is to read this book with an open mind. You may not agree with everything you read, but I promise, you will enjoy the book. It won't rock your faith (whatever you may believe) but it may have you questioning a few things, and questioning is always good.

About the Author

Introduction

Beyond the churches, mosques and temples with their great books, varying beliefs about God, rites, and rituals, is the truth: that there is The One True Source of All Creation from whence we all came and shall return.

I have always had lingering questions that made me want and sometimes ask for Divine revelation to provide me with answers about God, creation, life and our purpose on this earthly plane. I felt it would be great to spend some time with either a living spiritual master, or one in the afterlife, who could answer some of these questions. This is why Adam, the first man as many believe, appeared in my life for seven days.

During that seven-day period, Adam went way beyond answering my questions. He shattered many of my core beliefs about God, creation and the basic nature of humans. Oddly enough, he also affirmed much of my spiritual practice and expanded it in ways that I could never have imagined.

For example, did you know that the human body is so much more than cells, muscle and bones or that it has an important spiritual function? Adam explained to me how this function works. Also, did you know that Eve is far more important than we know? What Adam revealed about Eve is astounding and offers a very empowering message for all women. Adam also imparted some very practical and real methods to manifest goals. I learned that we truly are the masters of our destiny.

I always thought it would be fascinating to speak with Adam. Supposedly, he was there in the beginning, just him with God. There were many times when I wondered exactly what Adam would have to say if I could speak with him. Also, there are billions of believers who feel that through original sin, Adam and Eve are responsible for the pain, misery and death we experience in this life. Therefore, it seemed to me that if someone had a profound perspective about what really happened in the beginning, Adam would be a logical and desired source.

Now when I say Adam appeared in my life, there is a need for some elaboration. My interest in Adam developed as the result of a dinner conversation with a friend where we discussed which three historic or mythical figures we would like to meet. Adam was my first choice; my attempt to make a rather boring exercise a little more fun.

In the ensuing months and years, my interest in Adam grew stronger and I found myself devoting more time to reading and thinking about what and who he was. Soon thoughts began to surface, which I began to recognize not only as guidance, but, as possible answers to many of the burning questions I had about Adam, God and creation as well. This made me read, research and reflect more about Adam. So, what started out as an effort to bring a little laughter to a conversation over dinner, developed into what you will hopefully find an insightful and thought provoking book.

Even though 7 Days With Adam is meant to be an easy read, it is full of intense and humorous exchanges between Adam and me. Some of what is presented in the book is absolutely true. Some events were creatively crafted to strengthen Adam’s message and make the book fun while provoking thought and reflection. Not only does Adam provoke thought and reflection, I also offer personal reflections and insights throughout the chapters, which allows you to note my reactions to Adam and my growth, as well.

My background made me more open to the experience with Adam. Even though my parents chose to raise me Catholic and sent me to Catholic schools all my life, my mom taught me to question and challenge religious institutional thought. Mom was the first new age or new-thought person I was exposed to. She loved to read books that discussed non-main-stream views about God or the universe, in general, such as those of Edgar Cayce. Two of the most interesting topics she told me about as a child were the Dead Sea Scrolls and early Christians. This was the first time I heard that there were other views about Jesus and his life than those I learned from reading the Bible and in school. She began making me aware of these things when I was in the fifth grade.

My father also had an impact. He would frequently discuss how the Bible was used as a historic document to justify the authority of certain social institutions. Dad often cautioned that I had to be able to discern between God’s words in the Bible and the editorial manipulations of man. Both of my parents planted seeds for what would eventually lead me to develop a unique personal theology. If you combine their influences and my coming of age in the 60’s and 70’s, I evolved into one big questioning guy.

The whole creation myth, as presented in the Bible, was one of the major areas of focus for my questioning. I also had some very clear and hard questions about how God or the Creator was presented by mainstream religions. And, I was always puzzled by how the teachings of most faith traditions are based upon reports of the experiences of a relatively small group of people or individuals with a god or gods, and the adherents of those faith traditions are asked just to accept these experiences without seeking confirmation. I wanted my own experiences and confirmation and believed that if I sought them, the answers and guidance would come.

The answers came from many sources. Over the years, I discovered what many call lost, channeled, or ancient wisdom, like The Gospel of Judas, which surfaced in Egypt rather recently, and The Gnostic Gospels from Nag Hammadi, which were discovered in the 1940’s. These early Christian texts contain teachings that were eventually suppressed by the editors of the Bible and architects of Christian Theology. Much of what Adam says is contained in some of these Gnostic texts. Also, some of Edgar Cayce’s concepts about the Spiritual Engineering of the human body are discussed. I believe I was guided to these sources.

Eventually, I embraced an interfaith approach, which means that I believe there are words of truth, comfort, healing, solace, wisdom, and guidance in the teachings of many faith traditions that I can apply in my own spiritual practice and life. I also believe that the divine revelations present in many faith traditions around the globe can enrich the entire human family if we are open to them.

My interfaith approach resulted in the exploration of and subsequent ordination as an Interfaith Minister, training and working as a chaplain in a large trauma hospital in Washington, DC, graduate studies in Ecumenism at Wesley Theological Seminary and eventually serving as the Director of the oldest Interfaith Seminary in the world. I should note that even though my interfaith approach has broadened my spiritual practice, the teachings of Christ, as I understand them through personal revelation, still inform a lot of my ministry. I have developed a deeper understanding of what I regard as the power of the unfiltered message of Christ and how it can be used to uplift a divided world full of tension.

With my interfaith approach, ordination and work as a chaplain, my questioning grew stronger and fostered a broader search for truth. My search revealed that there is so much spiritual wisdom and knowledge in the universe that we have not accessed. There are universal truths and laws about God, creation, and existence that either have been lost or yet to be found. I have a burning desire to access this wisdom and guidance.

When you put all the various steps and paths encompassing my spiritual journey and the strong spiritual practice I had developed over the years, it was still not enough to satisfy my need to know more about the nature of God and creation. I was ready and open for Adam to come.

He was a force that dominated my being for an entire week. When I first looked at his face, I knew that I was about to embark on an extraordinary journey of enlightenment. There sat the daddy of us all, right there in front of me in my living room.

He was not black and also not white, not red, not yellow, not brown. His skin had an unusual hue. It had a color that was unlike any other skin tone I have seen. Looking at his face was like seeing the faces and features of the entire world carefully and masterfully crafted into one neat package. His hair was uniquely blended… from kinky to straight to curly. His eyes were slightly almond-shaped. His lips were full. His nose had a European flare.

I hope you enjoy the book

CHAPTER ONE

On The First Day

There is a light within a person light, and it shines on the whole world.

— Jesus, Saying 24, The Gospel Thomas

Once you are exposed to the truth, you must make a decision to live in the light or to remain in darkness. You have tasted the fruit from the eternal tree of knowledge. You have sought out the truth. Now, you must hear it. Many see and do not truly see, and many hear and do not truly hear. I have opened the door for you to look at the hidden truth about God, creation and the Divine nature of humans."

When I heard these words on the first day Adam appeared, chills exploded all over my body. I knew at that moment my life, and how I thought I would approach my remaining time on this earth, had changed. Adam told me many astonishing things during his seven-day visit about the divine nature of human beings, the God/gods that created this world, and his version of the role he and Eve played as the father and mother of humanity. However, this was, by far, the strongest and most powerful statement he made to me because it seemed very personal… almost threatening.

The first day Adam appeared, was one of those fast moving and challenging days at The Washington Hospital Center where I worked as an On-Call Chaplain. Around 7 pm that evening, I had an extremely dramatic end-of-life prayer for a patient who died unexpectedly. The words from my prayer rang in my mind like the bells of the nearby Basilica of the Shrine National Immaculate Conception. I can still hear them:

"Divine and merciful Father in heaven, please accept this your servant, Stoddard Jones, into your kingdom. Let the promises of eternal salvation from the death his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, now be made manifest for him. We beseech thee to accept him into your kingdom."

Stoddard would have liked that prayer. It reflected his personal beliefs. Just a few hours before, in a routine visit to his room, we had spoken together and prayed for a successful elective surgery for him. During our conversation, he had told me that he had never really questioned
