it's the killers, the psychopaths, the witches and the monsters you should watch out for.

Five unsuspecting workers of a picturesque café get the shock of their lives when a family member is killed before their eyes. A chain of events ensue and they are all catapulted down a spiralling road of mystery and magic, each struggling to overcome constant obstacles that threaten their lives and the safety of their families. Author

Gavin Hetherington

Gavin Hetherington was born and raised in the town of Gateshead in the United Kingdom. Born 7th May 1992, Gavin grew up reading R.L. Stine’s original ‘Goosebumps’ series, Roald Dahl books, and – most importantly – J.K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ series. Gavin tried his hand at writing fantasy stories while he was young and in 2006, he won a nationwide competition to be included in an anthology book along with other secondary school students. The book was titled ‘Telling T.A.L.E.S. Adventure Into Fiction, Vol. 1’, and was published 30th November 2006. Gavin self-published his debut novel, ‘Remnants of the Damned’, on the 9th of October 2013 on the Kindle store where it immediately became a success. The book has been nominated for five awards where it has so far won two – Silver for Horror Fiction at the Global eBook Awards, Silver for Young Adult Horror at the Readers’ Favourite Book Awards. The book has also been nominated for the Wattpad Young Writers’ Prize. Gavin currently writes reviews and articles for popular website SpoilerTV while studying English Literature with Creative Writing at Newcastle University. Gavin can also be found working part-time at Greggs to keep busy between studying and writing. When Gavin has free time (which is rare), he loves to read on his Kindle, watch countless television shows including The Walking Dead and Once Upon a Time, re-watch his favourite Disney and Pixar films including Frozen, The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo, obsessing over Studio Ghibli films like Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo, playing video games and spending time with his family.

Hi all. I'm Gavin Hetherington, and I wrote this book. It was a long time coming too; I have planned the Abyssal Sanctuary series since February 2008 (though it used to be called Urban Legends, but I prefer the new title, it's more unique) and I really hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

A couple of words of warning before you guys begin what could be a life-changing book! (Haha, over-exaggeration on my part, but hey, I have to sell this thing) Firstly, if you are uncomfortable with LGBT characters, then you will have one major problem with this book. One of my main characters, Justin Rutherford, is gay, and he plays a huge role in this book. I have had a couple of homophobic people stop reading and "wasting their time" starting this book. It isn't my fault you think gay people are disgusting. I am gay myself and a huge supporter of the LGBT community and I fear there isn't enough LGBT characters in literature, let alone main characters. If you are against gay people, then I do not recommend reading this book, even though you'd be missing out. Please don't be a douche and start telling me how disgusting it is to have a gay guy kiss his boyfriend. I'd rather not know your short-sighted prejudice, thanks.

Secondly, this book is in British English, well, most of it is. I am a huge fan of American television shows and films so I can't guarantee American phrases haven't made its way into the book, but the British spelling and words and sometimes slang are included here. I have had complaints that the words were odd, but it's simply just British. Which isn't very far off odd. I joke. Kinda. It shouldn't stop your enjoyment of the book though as long as you don't mind words that are spelt different. I am going to try and see if I can somehow get it translated to American English, but right now I am so busy but just know it could happen :)

And thirdly, there is a lot going on in this book. And I mean it. A lot. The book has been divided into seven sections (but follows the same timeline) - the first is a stand-alone Prologue. The next five sections are each dedicated to a main character that goes through their version of events on their fateful October night. Then to end it all is the Epilogue that features the climax of the novel in three action-packed chapters. And this is the first in a series of books (definitely more than three, so it's not a trilogy, but I am unsure right now how many books I should have. I have so much coming up in the sequels). So with it being the first, there will be a lot of questions to be answered, so please don't feel like the book is incomplete. It is very much complete and some answers you do not want to know just yet. You will get a whole load of answers for some of the crazy stuff that happens in the first book (plus new questions) in the sequel, coming October 6, 2014.

So if you are happy with this, then I wish you good luck reading my book and I hope you enjoy it. A lot of people have so far, which is completely wonderful and I am so grateful. You guys will always have my appreciation for even picking up my book. I owe you a debt! So happy reading and if you ever need to know anything, just send me a message, a friend request or reply to this review.

I give this book 4 1/2 STARS! What a truly different horror/paranormal novel for sure! Here is the blurb from Goodreads to start.......Witness the Birth of Fear. There has always been something wrong with the sinister and secluded town of Lakefield View. For one, people get murdered on the streets and nobody does anything about it. Even if they hear their screams curse the night skies, the number of saints has diminished. But it isn't the sick and twisted residents of Lakefield View that are the ones who you should avoid... it's the killers, the psychopaths, the witches and the monsters you should watch out for.Five unsuspecting workers of a picturesque café get the shock of their lives when a family member is killed before their eyes. A chain of events ensue and they are all catapulted down a spiralling road of mystery and magic, each struggling to overcome constant obstacles that threaten their lives and the safety of their families. As the mystery progresses and the secrets get darker, the friends find it harder and harder to keep their heads above water. The only thing worse than being alone in the dark, is finding out you're not!_______________A prism of genres, Remnants of the Damned promises to be a truly different approach of a series of novels with one of the main characters being gay – a rare occurrence in a mainstream piece of literature in this kind of genre.OK.... so where do I start with this one? First of all, I have to say that I love the way the author wrote this book. It took a little time to get used to his writing style and the way in which the author unfolded the story..... but I found that once I got going I did not want to put this book down. I needed to find out or figure out what was going on! And let me emphasize that that was a challenge. For the most part, I was constantly guessing and trying to figure out what truly was happening and that is one of the reasons I loved this book so very much! It was refreshingly different and had quite a bit going on with the 5 main characters to keep you intrigued. :) I really do not want to say too much, because it would really ruin the point of this story which played out like a horror movie for me. All I can say is that I LOVED it! Just take my word for it. If you are a lover of horror and paranormal stories this book is totally for you! I cannot wait for the sequel because while I thought that I had figured out how this story was going to end, Gavin put a spin on it and left me quite surprised and intrigued! I am in need of the sequel like today, not October! Anyway, you need to check this out for yourself and October cannot come soon enough for me. And what a perfect month to release the sequel to this fabulous scary, horror, paranormal novel. Thanks to Gavin for a super fun and refreshingly different read!
