      First line:Light from inside the weather-beaten structure leaked out through the shutters, striping the plank of driftwood over the door in flickering bands of gold.This short story has been described as ‘an action packed adventure’ featuring Kit Marlowe, a vampire and his newest ally Gillian, a witch he helped rescue from the clutches of "The Circle". I did not find this to be action packed at all. In fact I found it quite boring. This is apparently meant to be an adjunct to Chance’s novels and maybe if I had been familiar with those stories it would have made a difference. However, I didn’t enjoy this story enough to bother checking out her other books.
