I'm so bummed that I couldn't finish this book. It started out so promising. I really liked the set up with an older, reserved, rich, white man who is the older brother of the younger, working class, black girl's best friend. In fact, it read kind of like an Contemporary, interracial Pride and Prejudice. There was some really nice sexual tension between the two characters, some wonderfully playful snarky scenes where they played off each other nicely.

Then the sex scene pretty much ruined it all. Not only did Caden suddenly start using the nickname "baby girl" for Shakara which seemed very, out of character given how he had acted up to that point. It came off sounding like cheesy "porno talk" to me. Then there was the actual descriptions in the sex scene (see my shelving of creamy cores and twitching sabers). I was turned off and laughing through most of it. Which pretty much killed any motivation I had to continue reading.

On the whole, I think Hunt had a great concept and compelling characters, but she lost me at the cliche sex scene. If you don't mind the stereotypical (often laughable) erotic descriptors you'll probably have an easier time with this book and may even like it.

    Sadly, it wasn't for me.
