The Word of God: Why We Use the King James Bible
()
About this ebook
The word of God is the basis for all truth in the Christian's life. It is the foundation of what we believe and how we practice. Yet today many would contradict those statements. How do we know the Word of God is truth? How did we get our Bible? How do we know for sure that we have God's Word today without error? This book, taken from 3 sermons preached by Pastor Hammett, covers the doctrine of inspiration and preservation, the version issue, and answers the question of why we believe that the King James Version is the Word of God.

Chapter One
The Bible: The Only Inspired Word of God
If I were to ask you the question, Is everyone a sinner?
I am sure that ninety-nine percent of you would answer, Yes, everyone is a sinner. Every person born into this world is a sinner.
If I were then to ask the question, How can your sins be washed away?
the majority of you would answer, Only by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Then if I were to ask the question, How do you know those things are true?
your answer would be, Because it is written in the Bible.
Your reason for knowing those things are true would not be because you feel like it, or you have reasoned it out, and it makes sense. Your basis for truth as a Christian is the Word of God.
Suppose I told you that some 1500 years ago, a writer decided he was going to write a novel that would be sixty-six chapters long. But he was only able to write five chapters, then he died. Another writer came along, and he wrote one chapter, then he died. Then another writer came along, wrote only a couple chapters, and died. On and on the process went for some 1500 years. Some of the writers never even read what the other writers had written. They never met each other. They didn’t even live in the same country. They came from different occupations and different backgrounds.
Then I tell you, I have that book in my hand. Here it is. There are sixty-six chapters in this novel, over 40 authors worked to write it, and it is yours to read.
What would your reaction be?
You might say something like this, It sure doesn’t sound like it would be very good to me. With all of those different writers over 1500 years, how could the plot fit together? They didn’t even know each other. They didn’t know what the others were writing about. They would never fit together. I don’t think I want to read it.
You would be right, if it was the writing of man. However, the book that I hold in my hand is the Word of God. It was written down by some 40 different human authors, and covers a period of about 1500 years from Genesis to Revelation. But it all fits together perfectly, and there are no mistakes or errors. All 66 books agree with each other. Only God could do such a thing. Therefore, today we can say without reservation that the Bible is the Word of God!
How does a person find the truth? It is not by our feelings. We are not going to know the truth by asking wise men, because you can take any two wise men, and you will find they do not agree on everything. But we can say unreservedly that truth is found in the Word of God. We can judge every wise man, every thought, every action, everything in life by the Word of God and we will never go wrong.
How do we know the Word of God is truth? How do we know it is indeed God’s Word? In this chapter we are going to look at some Scriptures dealing with the Word of God, the inspiration of the Word of God, and how God has preserved His Word for us.
Some Scriptures about the Word of God
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (Second Timothy 3:16)
The Bible claims that all scripture is inspired by God. All scripture does not mean just some scripture. It refers to every little piece of scripture, the whole Word of God. God claims that the Bible is His words, not man’s words. The Bible claims that when it was originally written, it was written by men under the inspiration of God.
Some people believe the men who wrote the Scripture were inspired. But that is not true. Not one human author was ever inspired. Inspiration has nothing to do with the writer himself, as far as the author being something special. Inspiration is also not the lifting up of the ability of the writer. The writers of scripture were not super human writers. Inspiration means that God saw to it that the product of those writers was the very Word of God, exactly as God gave it to them.
The word inspiration means the breath of God. Therefore, the Bible claims to be the very breath of God. As we read the words of the Bible, the words are not the breath of Peter and Paul and Isaiah and Daniel. The words are the breath of God—the breathing out of His words. As Moses wrote the first five books of the Pentateuch, he was writing down the words of God. Every word that he penned down was the word that God would have him use. Every thought he expressed was expressed in the exact language that God Almighty wanted him to express it in. The Bible is
