Reviews for Lonely Planet Discover Egypt
4 ratings2 reviews
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Discover Egypt is a great source of information about the country, historical and contemporary. A general introduction explains practical steps the reader should take prior to visiting Egypt. It is divided into: This is Egypt, Egypt Top 25 Experiences, Egypt's Top Itineraries, and Planning Your Trip. The first major regional chapter of the travel guide is Cairo. It sets the stage for the organization of later chapters by dividing the presentation into: Highlights, The Best..., Things you Need to Know, and Discover Cairo. The Discover section, here and in later chapters, is the longest and most detailed. Other major chapters include: Luxor, Around Cairo, Beni Suef to Qena, Esna to Abu Simbel, Alexandria and the Mediterranean Coast, the Suez Sinai and the Red Sea Coast, and Western Desert. These chapters are presented in a similar format. The guide book is packed with beautiful full color photos of what seems to be every aspect of the Egyptian environment and culture. Egypt in Focus presents detailed information about some of the customs and mores of the people including food/drink and religion. The book ends with a very practical directory and facts about transportation. My wife is a travel agent who is very interested in organizing a tour of parts of Egypt. She states this would be an excellent guide to setting up the trip, and she recognizes that in-country guides would be essential. She could use Discover Egypt to develop lectures to present to the group on preparations for travel. It would be valuable to her in interaction with the in-country guides to help customize the trip. This is an excellent "Lonely Planet" resource for the independent travelor or groups with travel agents.
