A Guide To Effective Parenting - Jimmy Henderson
Introduction
We, as parents, are all finding it increasingly difficult to rear children in a world where there are so many demands on our time, as well as work and environmental stressors. There is also some confusion over what is the correct or most suitable method of parenting. The social environment for rearing children is certainly not the same as it was many years ago and today we all need special skills in dealing with teenage behaviour problems as well as current issues such as children’s access to technology and social networks, concerns which relate directly to their safety.
In this guide I will be hoping to increase your understanding of your children by dealing with issues relating to their emotional and psychological development, as well as their age-related needs. I will also examine a number of common approaches and misconceptions in child-rearing practices and be discussing a number of risk behaviors to which children, especially teenagers, are exposed. I will also devote a chapter to exploring personal, family and environmental factors which can lead to behaviour problems and finally, will be describing methods of improving your parenting and empowerment skills.
To frame the information within practical, real-life social contexts, I will be using relevant case studies and schematics where at all possible.
No. 1Chapter One

Research reveals that infants who do not have the opportunities to master these developmental tasks can suffer from immaturity and incompetence in certain areas, including the inability to form cohesive social relationships. This puts them at a disadvantage when entering school and can even affect their later adult lives.
Infant development
For example, from birth to age two infants need a high level of intellectual stimulation in order to develop their awareness, specifically the realisation that they are separate, functioning beings, but also that there are people out there on whom they can depend. This is usually achieved by interacting with the child and providing him
