      My daughter loved it because Franny is so different and very weird scientist. She made cool dolls and the monsters looked like Frankenstein. The other looked like a Halloween monster.

      My husband had gotten me a Franny K Stein video game so when I heard about the book series from a patron today I got all excited. All in all these are very cute. Franny learns to be herself in this one.

      This funny transitional chapter book would be a great choice for fans of Captain Underpants (especially remember this series for kids whose parents forbid Capt. U). It has the same sense of humor that Capt. U has, but toned down a bit. This is also a great choice for kids who don't like sci-fi but are required to read a sci-fi book. It's light sci-fi and mostly a story about a girl who's a little different (okay, a lot different) from the other kids in her class.

      Perfect for budding readers who like heroines with a bit of a mischievous side. Not bad for me either since I enjoy the ability and cleverness of authors to take an old idea and make it new. Besides, I really like Frankenstein so have fun picking out all the tidbits from the original used in this series.

      Lunch Walks Among Us tells the story of Franny K. Stein who is a child mad scientist. She is much different from the other kids at school and is not really accepted, until one day she attempts a new experiment - fitting in with the regular kids. She is successful at this experiment until she accidentally creates a monster out of her left over lunch. The book is filled with humorous comments and pictures, which many children will enjoy. Although it may not be the best example of a science fiction novel, it still works as an early elementary example of sci fi because there are lunch meat monsters who battle at the end and Franny can create potions and antidotes that transform things. A cute, fun read for 7-10 year olds that adults can also enjoy.

      Love that it’s a girl. At first took some time to warm to the character (does she have Asperberger’s?) but overall nice message – you want friends who like you for who you are, not who you pretend to be. But don’t knock something until you try it – you might like some aspect of it. (And finale reminded me of Buffy’s senior prom).

      This is a really nice series. This book is one of those must read books. I read it over at least 5 times. Highly recommended for children. And, also did you notice that her name is Franny K. Stein and she is a mad scientist, well I think that the joke is that it's like Frankenstien. Really neat! In this book Franny tries to be an ordinary girl instead of a mad scientist. At school there is this trash bin which people threw many things in but, one day the junk in the trash can turns into a monster. So Franny K. Stein to the rescue! Franny has to turn back into her mad scientist self so she can save her lovely teacher, Mrs. Shelly from the hideous monster. Will Franny Rescue Mrs. Shelly before it's to late. Read this book and find out! A really enjoyable book!

    CHAPTER ONE

    FRANNY’S HOUSE

    The Stein family lived in the pretty pink house with lovely purple shutters down at the end of Daffodil Street. Everything about the house was bright and cheery. Everything, that is, except the upstairs bedroom with the tiny round window.

    That room belonged to Franny K. Stein, and she liked to keep it dark, and spooky, and creepy.

    Every few days her mother would come in and redecorate Franny’s bedroom with daisies, and lilacs, and pictures of lovely horses. It would always look so sweet and pretty.

    But by the very next day Franny would somehow manage to make it look dark, and creepy, and spooky again. That was how she liked it-like a dungeon, complete with giant spiders and bats.

    Bats! Where does she get bats? her mother would ask when she saw Franny’s room. Is there a bat store around here or something?

    Of course there wasn’t a bat store around. The bats just kept showing up. The bats liked Franny’s room, and Franny liked the bats.

    They’re like rats with pterodactyl wings, she’d say. What’s not to like?

    CHAPTER TWO
