About this ebook

Book #1 of the bestselling Consequences series:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a suspenseful thriller about secrets and deception, passion and love, choices and consequences.

Every action has consequences.

Waking in an unfamiliar bedroom in a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols is terrified to discover that a chance encounter led her into the cruel hands of her abductor, Anthony Rawlings. Claire has no understanding of why she's there, but it's been made abundantly clear—she is now his acquisition and every action has consequences.

Learn the rules to survive.

Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive her new reality—every aspect of her livelihood depends upon the tall, dark-eyed tycoon who is a true master of deception. Driven by unknown demons, he has no tolerance for imperfection, in any aspect of his life, including his recent acquisition. Anthony may appear to the world as a handsome, benevolent businessman, but in reality Claire knows firsthand that he's a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as you're told, public failure is not an option, and appearances are of the utmost importance.

Captivate the captor.

To fit together the pieces of the puzzle, Claire must follow his rules. Will her plan work, or will Anthony become enthralled by Claire's beauty, resilience, and determination, changing the game forever? If that happens, will either of them survive the consequences?

Nobody ever did or ever will escape the consequences of his choices.—Alfred A. Montapert

Did not like the book, because is never ok to romanticize abuse.

I started reading this book because it was on my recommended list. In advance it was no way for me to know how angry and sick of this book I would ended up being. I did at several points come very close to closing the book and forgetting it even existed. However I read some reviews and decided to power through on the promise of answers and closure. I would like to be able to say that I regret picking up this book, but just as Claire was through out the story I'm still conflicted. Despite how much I hate the lead Claire and her decision making. To be honest most of the other characters goes under the same category, dislike. I did enjoy the complexity and thought that must have gone into writing it. I wish it wasn't as drawn out though. After reading half I barely remember how it began.

I recently finished a Kristen Ashley book where the villain and the hero shared a lot of common traits. Passion vs. psychosis, dominance vs. tyranny, violence vs... violence? Ashley managed to explore this subject pretty well, and while the plot of ROCK CHICK REDEMPTION was a little over the top, I liked that the author is cognizant of the fine line between hero and villain.

I went into CONSEQUENCES expecting a similar exploration, but found that the heroine herself seemed completely unaware of the question until way too late. I'm glad this book exists, if only as a foil to the myth of the controlling alpha hero. I found myself flipping through page after page after hundreds of pages of Stockholm moments looking for those flashes where Claire still exists, where she's still fighting for herself. She's held captive by a violent, awful man, and all the shopping trips and apologies in the world don't make this ok. I know from other reviews that many readers find Tony attractive, but that definitely didn't happen for me. I'm still reading, but I can't stand immersing myself in most of this. I hung on, hoping for a J-Lo "Enough" climax (every time Claire notes how strong she's getting I hold my breath), but at the halfway point I started losing hope. Claire is trapped in a prison of her own mind at that point, never daring to ask for help. Alone with the doctor she still toes the line... and I start losing faith.

    And then, the death knell.
Oh my God, they got married. "We don't need a prenup, I could never live without you" is very different from Tony's "We don't need a prenup, you'd never survive an attempt to leave me". Holy shit this is awful.

(And an aside: If one of the words an author has to include in a sex scene is “consensual”, something is seriously wrong in this relationship. That doesn’t make it ok, that “this time”, she consented. It just brings home how often she didn’t. This is completely sick.)

Aleksandr Voinov’s DARK SOUL series was too violent for me to get past volume one. Still, the pacing and writing was well balanced and effective enought to garner two stars. CONSEQUENCES meanders on and on and on through this dysfunctional relationship, with no light at the end of the tunnel in sight. Being inside Claire’s thoughts as she wallows in anxiety and obsession for the cold, murderous, calculating rapist who so clearly doesn’t deserve it made me feel like I need a shower. The only thing that kept me reading was previous reviewer’s assurances not to expect a HEA… which had me hoping for Revenge with a capital “R”. Romig fans the flames for hundreds of pages, gives us our heroine beaten and abused and *finally* ready to fight back, and then cuts to black.

I'm sitting here feeling angry and manipulated. I would love to read Tony Rawlings get his just desserts. I would LOVE it. But given the agony CONSEQUENCES put me through, I don't trust Romig to give me that satisfaction without more torture. I don't trust Claire to some how magically transform into the powerful sociopath necessary to give Tony a taste of his own medicine. God, I don't even trust her not to fall back in love with this asshole.

I think I’ll just watch Kill Bill: Volume Two and call it a day.

    "Actions have consequences."

Where to start, where to start...

This book tested my patience in many ways. I couldn't relate to Tony's thinking and ways of acting but neither could I relate to Claire's thinking and behaviour. Since this isn't a short read, it made it tedious at times.

I was annoyed with this book more times than I cared to count. When I started to put the pieces together, I knew the why but for a long time that still didn't prepare for what was to happen.

This probably isn't the book for impatient readers, at times I had trouble sitting through it because it really only picked up at around 80-85%. I was annoyed, I was close to quitting and dishing out a terrible rating.

BUT the magnitude of all those puzzle pieces are mind-blowing. In the aftermath I do realize that every little piece of information was needed to reach that outcome, no matter how boring or unimportant it seemed at the moment of reading.

This book is like an elaborate game of chess, every move is calculated and still you rarely saw it coming until you realized that not only were you checked but you were checkmated.

In that combination I have to give it 4 stars, the road was hard & rocky but the end blew my mind and I look forward to the second book.

It took me a while to realise this, but this is a FSOG-rip off. No thank you, somewhen it stops, maybe after getting here a rip-off of a fanfic which ripped off another fanfic of Twilight? Enough is enough! I even returned this one, which I don't necessarily do with books I disliked so much.

I did not know what to make of this book to begin with; in fact I started reading it twice and gave up both times. I then saw it on Amazon with 168 reviews & almost 5 Stars!! I then decided to try reading it for a 3rd time; thank God I did. it turned out to be a great thriller: lust, passion, power, wealth, violence all inclusive!! I am now addicted, and moving straight on to book two. Can't believe I have finally found something as good on Scribt LOL. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. I am praying that the lovely, innocent, used and abused Claire gets here revenge, but don't think even if she did it could ever make up for what this monster, 'Tony' put her through. She's languishing in jail at the end, ready for a 4 year stint. I am proud to say that 'Tony' never had me believing he had any redeeming features and when he gave Claire the option to 'run' or 'marry' him, I was screaming for her to RUN......
