    The Son of Tarzan is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the fourth in his series of books about the title character Tarzan. It was first published in 1914. In the previous novel Jane had been kidnapped along with her infant son Jack, by Tarzan's enemy Nikolas Rokoff and his henchmen. In this novel the key point is like father, like son. Alexis Paulvitch, a henchman of Tarzan's enemy, Nikolas Rokoff, had survived his encounter with the ape-man and wanted to even the score using Jack Clayton, Tarzan's son, by luring him away from London and into his clutches. Unfortunately for Paulvitch, Jack had escaped with the help of the ape named Akut. Akut & Jack fled into the deep African jungle where two decades earlier Tarzan himself had been raised.

    Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is the creator of Tarzan, one of the most popular fictional characters of all time, and John Carter, hero of the Barsoom science fiction series. Burroughs was a prolific author, writing almost 70 books before his death in 1950, and was one of the first authors to popularize a character across multiple media, as he did with Tarzan’s appearance in comic strips, movies, and merchandise. Residing in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, Burroughs was drawn into the Second World War and became one of the oldest war correspondents at the time. Edgar Rice Burroughs’s popularity continues to be memorialized through the community of Tarzana, California, which is named after the ranch he owned in the area, and through the Burrough crater on Mars, which was named in his honour.

      This edition, published by 1stWorld, is full of grammar and spelling and usage errors, which sometimes mangle the storyline.That said, this was a great romp in the jungle with Tarzan's son, starting and ending in England, but full of wild adventures with heroes and villains worthy of the challenge.

      this may be the most interesting burroughs' tarzan story, since it only involves tarzan as a strong and civilized englishman. his son, however, voluntarily leaves for africa to be with his love who he rescues from an evil sheik. Burroughs obviously did not blacks or browns a whole lot. For him and his readers, racism isn't an issue. One is white or one is black (brown, red, or otherwise). White is good. Anything else bad. Kinda like Tarzan, eh?
