This is an exert from our Chapter on Sustainability.

"As an entrepreneur we are going to suggest that you have a balanced approach and that you gradually change some of the things you do and replace them with things that are better for you.

We found that the two habits strategy is workable, not too unpleasant and achieves a more sustainable focus on health. e.g buying fruit to replace crisps.

I am also going to come off all mobile devices two hours before I go to bed, in order to provide a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere for me to go to sleep. But I am going to purchase some books and I’m going to read a few pages before I go to bed, this is my slightly healthier habit.

This “swopping habits” technique works well as it only takes on average 14 days to establish a new habit.

In terms of becoming an entrepreneur one of the issues that comes up is that entrepreneurs commonly have a tendency to work very long hours, it is not unusual in the start-up to a business to work 70 hours a week. However this is very difficult to sustain and could lead to long term health issues.

Time management is a real issue for an entrepreneur and often the longer you are working (without noticing), you become less and less effective; this is been shown on repeated studies from eminent researchers such as NASA where despite people believing they were working at 100% effectiveness. During those long extended hours, predictably what they managed to achieve decreased and the errors percentage increase exponentially."

Look out for more of Jo's book on learning how to thrive both at home and at work.

In this chapter we start to consider what exactly is an entrepreneur’s mindset?

Firstly let’s look at the word Entrepreneur as opposed to Wantrepreneur; it’s easy to mistake the two, this is why it is essential to look ahead and consider how to develop the mindset of an entrepreneur.

An entrepreneur sees opportunities, or possibilities where there is only a glimpse or a partial sighting, or no evidence at all. So an entrepreneur’s mindset is very fixed on the Now and the Future; they don’t tend to hang about in the past too much and spend too much time reflecting on failures.

Wantrepreneur on the other hand tend to see the opportunities and possibilities they are also equally positive about looking for new futures; but from this point there is a difference. Wantrepreneurs often get hung up on the thought alone, the analysis rather than the action. Avoid getting paralysis by analysis, move to action as fast as you can.

In terms of digital launches there is a saying if you are not embarrassed by your first product you launched too late!

An entrepreneur’s mindset remains positive even when the going gets tough.

They can hold their nerve when others are running for cover and it helps that within this mindset, they have a deep appreciation and embedded sense of belief in their own abilities.

Within the mind of an entrepreneur, they may have a diverse range of abilities and skills, they may have different levels of knowledge, and commonly they know quite a lot about a lot of things. However an entrepreneur is also well aware when they need to ask for help, involve others, and crucially they realise when they are out of their
