About this ebook

A powerful story of love, shocking secrets and malignant forces from bestselling author Josephine Cox.

All Jack's life, the nightmares had haunted him, dragging him back to a place where it was always midnight…

Molly and Jack are deeply in love but their relationship is being torn apart by Jack's nightmares. Trapped in a place where he is taunted by eyes in the gloom, it is becoming harder for Molly to pull him free, and even when daylight comes the haunting visions remain.

Realising that Jack is being driven close to the edge, Molly urges him to seek help, and with their relationship faltering, Jack decides to hunt for answers.

His search takes him back to the place where he grew up, and it soon becomes clear that he must trace people from his past, particularly the one person he could turn to through his troubled childhood. But Jack could never have imagined the true horrors of what he is about to uncover…

I quite like Josephine Cox, but this book disappointed. It promised a good mystery, but became banal fairly quickly. I didn't like many of the characters, most of them very one-dimensional. There were lots of proof-reading errors in the later part of the book, characters names transposed etc, which was annoying, and whatever happened to the horrible Molly was left to the imagination.

    Surprisingly political, loved it!

Loved the pacing of this book! Skulduggery books are always fast paced and the rapport between the characters always gives me life. If you like Pratchett humour, you'll like the humour here. My only (very mild) complaint is going to be the way Landy writes the combat scenes. There are lots of these and I just kinda skim over them.. I don't really need to commit every elbowed chin or smashed rib to my memory. I've read all the books from the main series, and one of the extra ones, so I feel like I don't really need to focus on them because I've read them already! That said, I loved the way Landy keeps suspense going by switching between characters POVs, including the antagonists. I also appreciate that the antagonists are not unchanging and monolithic - they have have shifting alleigances and priorities, just like the so called good guys... who are not always quite so good.

Jack and Molly's romance is under threat from his continued nightmares. Her insistance that he seeks help from a professional sets them on a path that will lead to heartbreak and disaster for one and a new love for the other.
