      Miriam Elizabeth Swanson, divorced, see her organized life as a quasi-socialite spiral downward. With the help of new friends and her parrot, Harry, her life turns in an unexpected, and joyful direction. And as with many of Frank's books, that direction leads to Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. Maybe I should go there and see if it would work its magic on me. ;-)

      Another seductive low country tale about Mellie, a native coastal woman who lives her life in NY. Returning home to the low country she finds her way back to repairing her fractured family as she finds herself. Again, I want to be the main character.

      DBF's books are purely guilty-pleasure reading for me. They're not intellectually stimulating, but they're also not smutty or full of language.

      This one wasn't particularly my favorite--it wasn't terribly strong on plot, and it was more predictable than most by this author. But it was still decent bathtub reading.

      This rating is for my taste not the authors writing ability. I love Dorthea and Sullivan's Island remains at the top of my all time favorite books. I just do not enjoy chic lit and books that follow a formula. It seams that is what has happened over the last several years and I tend to not choose her as an author any longer just because this type of book is no longer what I enjoy.

      The book was slow at first for me and started picking up around chapter 5 and thought it was great the way we got to see more of the real Mariam and her life along with Liz, Kevin, Harrison and of course dear Miss Josey. A warm story that really makes you think.

      slow but likeable start to the book. I enjoy D.B Frank books,but I have to agree with comments on the cover jacket,this is her best so far! Enjoyable read. Nice summer reading.

      A delightful and refreshing story! Dorothea Frank has created another wonderful story and I just thought Land of Mango Sunsets was just a great read. The characters are clever and appealing especially Miriam Swanson. Actually, I felt that she gave all the variety of splendid characters real feelings that I could relate too. This is a great book to take to the beach and read. It's an easy read and with the wonderful descriptive scenes of South Carolina, that Ms. Frank portrays you feel like you are roaming around in the beautiful state. I hope I haven't given away too much of the story for those who haven't read it. In summary, it's a delightful and refreshing story with humor, romance, a bit of mystery, and some valid issues concerning our environment. Grab it and enjoy.

      Fun read filled with both joy and tears. You don't like Miriam very much at the beginning, with her rigid ideas of right and wrong and what is due to her. You will probably like the person, "Mellie," she becomes, mostly because of returning to her mother, and her roots on Sullivans Island. But none of it is very believable. She suddenly becomes close to her estranged sons, and best friends with the tenant (and her behavior) she has scorned, while inexplicably reconnecting with her mother. Suspend belief, and enjoy the ride, along with Mellie and all the other characters!

      Funny book and really captures the reader. I definitely liked the touch of the talking parrot. Only thing was the lack of humor and the added sadness toward the end that bothered me but overall it was a great read and I would definitely recommend!
