About this ebook

He's a vampire from the big city . . .

Phineas McKinney thought New York City was tough, until he was attacked by Malcontents—evil vampires who consider mortals to be snacks. Saved by the good vampires, Phin swore to devote his now undead life to stopping the Malcontents. He's got his job cut out for him when word comes that their enemy may be hiding in Wyoming. What does a city boy like him know about horses and campfires? Good thing he's got Brynley Jones with him . . . if only she didn't hate every vampire on earth.

She's a werewolf princess . . .

Bryn believes vampires are seductive and charming, and that makes them dangerous. So she's more than a little annoyed about teaming up with Phin, even if he is the only bloodsucker able to make her inner wolf purr. But as they hunt down the new leader of the Malcontents, danger threatens . . . and Phineas and Brynley discover a passion that will rock the foundation of their supernatural world.

Phineas...I loved him from his very first appearance in the Love At Stake series. He was street wise, cocky, and oh so amusing. This series has been on my automatic pre-order list for quite some time so I delighted to get an opportunity to review an early copy, especially since it was Phineas's story. We have had a good idea for awhile of who Phineas might end up with as he and Brenley had some scenes showcasing their great chemistry in the recent past. The large focus of "Wanted: Undead or Alive" is on the budding relationship between Phineas and Brenley but the arching plotline is about McKay Security attempting to locate and obtain Corky, who is the main bad guy since the previous one's storyline has been resolved. Phineas needs a guard who can watch over him during the daytime and Brenley knows the territory well. While I really enjoyed this book, I had a couple of disappointments. Phineas has matured and is ready to settle down. That is great, but he is ready to shed his "Love Doctor" persona and in doing so seems to have lost some of the spark and uniqueness that made him stand apart from the other Love at Stake heroes. If the name was changed I may not have recognized him as the Phineas I have come to know and love. It is almost like Ms Sparks knows she is losing something special by having Phineas settle down because the book quickly introduces us to Phineas's younger brother Freemont. Freemont is young and cocky and just learning about the supernatural world. Basically, we have a brand new Phineas- replacement ready to go. The other thing that bothered me is the relationship between the couple. These two are perfect for each other. Both have vibrant and larger than life personalities. But there was no lead up or tension to the story of them coming together. It just feels lacking somehow. On the plus side, I loved seeing my favorite characters again. I am enjoying the direction Ms. Sparks is taking the overall plotline. She is keeping it very fresh. She does a fantastic job of bringing in new blood. When we meet a new character I automatically wonder when he will get his own book! I loved reading about Phineas and Brenley's well developed back stories. If you have enjoyed the series, this book is a must read. It was a fast and fun story. I just wish Phineas could have found his happily ever after with a little more zing and while retaining a little more of his trademark personality.

Phineas, ever since he was turned against his will by the Malcontents has devoted himself to protecting the innocent and destroying those that desire to destroy everything they have built. After a failed run of trying to capture the queen of the malcontents, he finds out that she is located in Wyoming, where the nest of werewolves are, and he needs a guide or risk detection by the werewolves. So his guide happens to be the one woman he has had a crush on ever sine he met her, Brinley Jones, who escaped her father and ended up teaching young boys that were kicked out by the head pack leader her father. Now when Brinley and Phineas are thrown together, there is a chemistry that sparks up between them that leads to fireworks, but there is one problem....how can a werewolf and a vampire make it work? Phineas loves Brinley and will do whatever it takes to keep her in his arms...even if that means confronting her father, which may start a war.Wanted Undead or Alive is the most recent book by Kerrelyn Sparks. Sparks is probably one of my favorite authors to read when it comes to vampire romances. And I have to say ever since Phineas came onto the scene, I have been looking forward to his story, so I was way excited to get a chance to read and boy did I just love it. I must have read in a few hours, I was so into the story I couldn't get away, it just drew me like a bee to honey. One of the aspects that I really love was the conflict that is in the plot here, this story is a bit of a forbidden love type. Because of Brin's connection to the werewolves it is dangerous for her to pursue any sort of relationship with anyone her father would dissaprrove of because more than likely something dire would happen to him. But no matter how much Brinley tries to protect herself, she finds herself falling in love with him anyway. The only problem I had was the cover, its not very observant according to characteristics in the book. Since the hero is black not caucasian, but its still a hot cover! Overall Wanted Undead or Alive is probably one of my favorite books of the series so far. Definitely full of everything that makes for an Amazing read! Full of romance and passion, strong story plot, witty characters and enough excitement and danger to satisfy any's reader taste. A Winner!!!!

Enjoyed this entry in this series. Nice to see Phineas become a real full character rather than the cartoonish comic relief.

I did get tired of the vampires constantly vaporizing everywhere. Even understanding that this is one of the things vampires in this world can do, it happened so often in this particular story that it got tiresome. Other than that it was a very enjoyable story.

This is the twelfth Book in the Love at Stake series and it just gets better! I love Phineas and am happy to see him move past the "Mr. Phang" thing. He has grown so much since we first met him and Brynley is a fitting mate for him. The conflict is engaging and develops and changes at just the right pace. The characters are endearing and we get to see old favorites and fall in love with new secondary characters, without ever detracting from the hero and heroine and the main plot.

    A highly recommended read!

Enjoyable paranormal story about a favorite character in the series, the Love Doctor. It had exciting action fighting the bad guys and a good build up of the romance all sprinkled with plenty of humor. Werewolf Bryn is asked to help vampire Phineas find the enemy suspected to be in Wyoming where she was raised.

This is my first book by this author; I am disappointed.

I had a hard time with the tone of the book; just when I think I do - BAM! I was wrong. I had a hard time for that reason. finishing seemed like a chore that had to be done, so I did not enjoy the book.

I've been wanting Phineas's story for quite some time. I just thought he was such a goofball and that it'd be fun to read about him. Having read his story, I was pleased to find out that he was actually more serious than he appeared, and he has a really big heart. The dynamic between him and Brynley was so comical, but so reminiscent of most relationships at some point or another. Their banter was cute. I think the background of Brynley and Phil added so much to the story and I can't wait to find out more about how they deal with Rhett.

This was quite a lot of fun. A vampire has to investigate what a rogue is doing and needs help so he ends up with a woman who has to face up to her past to help them finish the quest. Their lives will never be the same again. It's an interesting fun read and the scenes with the hero as an ad icon are hilarious. It's not earthshattering but it was a fun light read.

Wanted: Dead or Alive is the 12th novel in the Love at Stake series and is the story of Phineas and the werewolf Brynley. As with past books, you can be assured that Ms Sparks sense of humor is still riding what she is writing and the books remain steadfastly romantic. Well, as romantic as they can be when the Vampires are fighting yet another enemy and falling in love outside of their species! The enemy may just be hiding in Wyoming and Phineas is going to rush to help, until he realizes that he may need someone to care for him during his “death sleep” and who better than Brynley, a werewolf that Phin has had a bit of a crush on? Now Bryn is a little troubled with having to help the bloodsucker Phin, but her wolf wants out and what better place to do so than her old home in Wyoming. Unfortunately Bryn and Phin have to beware since her father will be hunting her as well as the uber evil Vamp Corky (!) and her Malcontent minions. There is plenty of action, angst-y inner dialogue, surprising by-plays and enough sexy romance to keep everyone happy and contented.

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Hilarious paranormal romance that follows a werewolf and a vampire’s hot, sweet, sexy and sometimes tumultuous relationship.Opening Sentence: “Get real, Phineas! You can’t expect me to believe this crap!”Review:I have never read a Kerrelyn Sparks novel and I was a little leery about jumping into a story twelve books into a series. Yes, I was a little overwhelmed by the huge cast of characters and who is married to whom and what kind species they are but ultimately Wanted: Undead or Alive was a story about Phineas and Brynley. A story that was hilarious, sexy and entertaining.Phineas McKinney aka Dr. Phang aka the Love Doctor aka the Blardonnay Guy was transformed into a vampire five years ago. He begins the novel trying to convince his brother, Freemont, that he is a vampire including filling him in on his various nicknames. Freemont takes a little convincing before he realizes his brother isn’t playing a huge joke on him. He then insists on being Phineas’ agent since his Blardonnay commercials have women falling at his feet. There are many tongue-in-cheek jokes between the brothers that come off ridiculous but are still funny.Phineas is being interviewed on live television about his role in the Old Spice commercials; oops I mean the Blardonney commercials. He takes the opportunity to tell off his employers and declare that he hates working for them and that he pretty much believes in the Malcontents ideologies. The Malcontents fall for this and take Phineas back to their lair to their queen Corky (such a queenly name). Unfortunate for them, Phineas has a tracker device planted on him ready for backup so they can take Corky prisoner for her “crimes”. Sadly, the best laid plans go to waste and Corky escapes. The gang at MacKay S and I believe Corky has escaped to Europe or Russia and break into groups to go search for her leaving Phineas to stay behind and act as security for the home office. A few days into the search Phineas receives a tip that a busty blonde attacked a man in Wyoming. He is the only vampire that can be spared to investigate this clue. Since he is going into werewolf territory he looks for someone who can help him and look after him during his death sleep. He is paired with the only wolf that can be spared, Brynley.Brynley fully intends to tell Phineas off but instead agrees to go to Wyoming. She is reluctant to go back home but her wolf is impatient to run free in the Wyoming wilderness. She knows the area and helps Phineas with his investigation all while she tries to hide her identity. She doesn’t want her father to know that she has come back home for he will force her back into a life that she ran away from.Phineas and Brynley appear to hate each other. It is easier to pretend to hate someone when you desperately don’t want them to know you are crushing on them. It doesn’t take long for their attraction to be revealed but they both believe they are not right for each other. They are a mixed race couple in more than one way, he is a vampire, she is a werewolf, he is black and she is white. He grew up a poor boy from the Bronx while she grew up a Princess in the werewolf world with plenty of wealth. But these two opposites soon learn they have a lot more in common than they thought and when these two come together the sparks fly and it is H.O.T.The novel does start off a little slow; it was a full 75 pages into the book before Brynley even shows up. The plot moved quickly from there. The point of view switches between them more often instead of staying on one character for a long time. Some of the jokes can be a little annoying especially Da Freeze jests but the truly funny jokes outweigh the annoying. The tension to the plot is enough to keep me reading but not terribly spectacular.Overall, Wanted: Undead or Alive was an entertaining read. I was invested in the relationship between Phineas and Brynley and was excited when they finally hooked up. If I have the time I would really like to catch up on this series and get to know the other characters better.Notable Scene:“You took down the ladder.” She spotted it on the cellar floor.“I don’t need it. I can levitate in or out.”But she couldn’t. “You don’t want me coming down there to check on you?”“No need. Once I fall into my death-sleep, I’m not going anywhere.”“You’re just afraid of what I’ll do.” She straightened with a smile. “I think I’ll draw a rainbow and unicorn on your chest with permanent markers. It’ll be so—““Don’t you dare,” he growled, suddenly behind her.She squealed, jumped away from him, and teetered on the edge of the open trapdoor, her arms flailing. He grabbed her and pulled her back against his chest. “It’s okay. I’ve got you.”“No!” She spun away from him and shoved him hard in the chest. “Don’t ever attack me from behind!”“I didn’t attack you. I rescued you.”She glared at him, her heart pounding, her whole body trembling. Tears blurred her vision, and she blinked them away. Her inner wolf hissed. Dammit. She hated to show any weakness. “You teleported behind me. Don’t ever do it again.”The Love at Stake Series:1. How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire2. Vamps and the City3. Be Still My Vampire Heart4.
