      I expected a lot from this book based on the premise and first chapter - An adventurer who everyone thinks is dead comes home after a trip to Africa. Unfortunately, the first chapter was the highlight of the book and the most creative. The hero and heroine were a little flat and never really developed. They become a couple but it feels like they fell into it more than having a relationship based on emotion. The main plot of Bennett proving his journals have been stolen felt like a secondary plot and wasn't really well done. This has been done much better in other books (the first that comes to mind is a Julie Garwood book). Enoch creates an "Adventures Club" in the book that felt incredibly forced. I actually skimmed that chapter and then realized that this was a set-up for future books in the series so I actually read it in more detail. The Adventures Club is so awkwardly introduced it doesn't feel like a natural group that would come together. After reading Stephanie Laurens and other authors who create men's club groups, I have pretty high expectations.Overall, very disappointing for a Suzanne Enoch book. I'll read the next book in the series but will get it from the library, not purchase it.
