This is book 14 in this series and while you may want to read this series from the start, it is not absolutely necessary, since the author puts in enough back-story for anyone to understand what is going on.Dougal is a Vamp with many issues, which is okay since the woman he is going to fall for has issues also! The good Vamps re fighting bad vampires and a demon in this book. Dougal has recently lost his hand when fighting the Malcontents (a past bad guy group) and is learning to use his ‘bionic’ hand. Leah is a genetic scientist who the vamps need to help them win this fight. She is also the embodiment of the woman that Dougal had lost centuries ago. She is having a little trouble reconciling herself to the fact that vamps exist. It sure doesn’t hurt matters when she see’s sexy Dougal strolling around looking like a pirate in his kilt. This is not only a relationship driven novel, but an action driven one as well and the author does a great job of blending both into one entertaining and fast read. The characters of Dougal and Leah were a little difficult for me to empathize with, since they are a tad whiny, but they grew on me after a while. Reading this book would be a good way to relax over a lazy weekend. *ARC supplied by publisher*

4.5 stars Still love this series! I laughed quite a bit while reading this one which is what I have come to expect from this series. I have to admit though there were a few spots that I teared up as well. So well done Ms. Sparks!

I wandered into this book and then discovered that it was rather late in the series. DRAT! Now I will have to go start with the beginning. Why? Because, although it is easily stand alone, I became so invested in the characters and activities that I want to find out more. The plot is well woven, and the characters clearly delineated, what with superhero abilities, professional women, and (I admit it) Kilts. The romance is between a brilliant research physician and a vampire with a bionic hand. The battles are in the US, Japan, and China with Vampires and shifters vs. demon and evil vamps. Oh, and God's warrior angels come in near the end to defend free will.Paula Costello gives an excellent performance that actually improves the character presentations.

"He's Out Of Control" That is what the book description starts with. Sadly, minus a few problems with his new hand, he really isn't. Normally, when I read a new Love at Stake novel, I cannot put it down. That was not the case with Dragon. The main characters felt bland, the plot seemed to take forever to develop and the climax seemed rushed. A potential future couple was peeking my interest more than Dougal and Leah. If you are a fan of the series, read it, but don't expect much.

For any of you, who have yet to read from Kerrelyn Sparks, you are missing out on some genuine talent. Her focus is the paranormal, but she has written a few historical's as well. Ever since I discovered her a couple years ago, I have been entranced by her stories. As far as vampire romances go, Sparks is one of my favorites to read from. The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo, is the fourteenth installment, and what a ride it was to read.In desperate need to bring a change in the battle between the good vampires and the "Malcontents", they search for a scientist who specializes in genetics, and find just the right one, only they have to convince her to accept vampires for real and to help them. Dougal is shocked when first seeing Leah. She reminds him of a long lost love he has never forgotten. Having recently lost his hand in a battle against the malcontents, it has taken some time to adjust to a mechanical hand. Now all he wants is Leah in his arms and in his life. Leah can barely believe that vampires really do exist. They seem more of myths and legends than reality. But she can't resist their plea for help or the intensity in Dougal's eyes or his Scottish brogue that leaps fire in her veins. In the beginning all she wants is distance between herself and the handsome Scot, however he is more tenacious than a dog with a bone, and she can't resist the temptation of sensation that is promised in his arms. All Dougal wants to do is protect Leah from harm, but when the tension with "Master Han" builds and they are forced to take extreme measures, he doesn't know if their power united will be enough to stop the evil that could destroy them all. I found that The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo, was a sensational read. I would bump this to my top favorites of the series. Sparks hasn't lost her touch in any way, if anything, I felt like it has only gotten better. There was such creativity in this story, very original in the sense that it was a bit different and involved certain aspects that makes for a intense ride. I will warn you to have a box of tissues with you while reading this, since I couldn't stop tearing up, especially toward the second half of the story. Very well written in the way of the emotional reactions it brings out in the reader. A Wild ride of adventure, sensuality and a paranormal flair that only adds a certain sense of intensity to the story, but still has the witty aspect to the story that will bring giggles and laughs. A TREASURE!!

I enjoyed this paranormal romance. I liked how the relationship developed with such a nice hero and heroine. The story was good with an exciting finish and an interesting philosophical spin at the end. Mortal genius doctor Leah is recruited by Dougal's vampire group for her genetic knowledge to fight evil vampires.

This was another charming, fun and emotionally satisfying entry in the Love at Stake series.
I loved Dougal and Leah. The story felt fresh and moved quickly. I empathized with Dougal and his hard past and Leah and the disconnect she feels with people in general.
The addition of the demon felt a little frustrating because the demon was so powerful and they had no way to combat him, but that was a minor issue.
The black moment in TVWTDT was as black as any I've ever read. I held my breath during much of the end and was happy and satisfied by the end.
I highly recommend this book to readers who love Paranormal Romance.

I have to admit that Dougal never really stuck out in my mind before this book. He's been there of course, in the background of several stories, but I never really paid him much attention until his hand was cut off. And even then, it was like "oh that's sad" but I never really felt a connection to his character. So, it was a very pleasant surprise to find myself so enthralled with this book. I loved his sad history and the story behind his dragon tattoo. I love the idea of past lives and loves searching for each other over centuries. It was fun to see the angels back into play, and Sparks never fails to shock me by pulling out new supernatural beings for the story lines. This time we meet a fox shifter with nine tails, or a kitsune as I know them. I hope we get to see more of her in future stories. As I've finally reached the end of the published volumes of this series, I have to say I'm sad to have to wait until next year to read the next.
