About this audiobook

Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working on a master's degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it's to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed . . .

As crown prince of Lilaria, Alex D'Lynsal has had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures in the press have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She's stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone's front-page news. While Sam tries to navigate her new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

I really enjoyed reading this story. It was very cute and a light read. The story brought every emotion from happy, sad, and angry. The build up of the story was well written,b but I felt the ending was a little rushed. I would have liked to see more of what happened in the end. All in all an enjoyable read.

I absolutely adored Suddenly Royal. It’s sort of like Princess Diaries for grownups!

I love Samantha! She’s very laid back, and only wants to succeed in her dreams. Her mother passed away, and her step-father is sick. So when this royals of Lilaria come in and tell her that she’s actually a Duchess, she’s not sure how to handle the news. Alex is freaking adorable!!! He’s persistent, but doesn’t do anything to make Samantha feel uncomfortable. Even the secondary characters were amazing.

Events progress at a quick pace. Everything happens in a whirlwind. Arrangements have to be made, and Samantha does a great job of acclimating. I love the teasing that goes on between Samantha and Alex. It’s sweet, and sometimes dirty. But the banter between these two is pretty funny.

Suddenly Royal is a fun read. Perfect when you want something happy and flirty.

5 out of 5 stars!! I could not get enough of this novel! Samantha & Alex were such a sweet pair and I loved their story. I can't wait to see where this series is going.

Just a warning though ... I cried a lot reading through it.

This book was so much fun to read. Easiest way to explain it is that it is sort of a Princess Diaries for grown ups. Samantha is minding her own business as a grad student at the university. She has classes to teach, birds to care for, and her sick father to care about. One day she gets an invitation to dinner from a visiting duchess and assumes she's supposed to talk about their wildlife program, only it doesn't quite work out that way. Samantha is stunned to find out that she's the heir to a title and some lands in the small country of Lilaria. Alex, crown prince of Lilaria, has come to America with his aunt. It gives him a chance to get out of the spotlight for awhile, after a particularly obnoxious set of pictures ends up in the tabloids. He's going to stick to business and stay away from women for awhile. That only lasts until he meets Samantha. She's not taking any of this too seriously, has no trouble standing up for herself, and has a wicked sense of humor. He also thinks she's incredibly sexy. He's so taken with her that he promises to stick with her as she gets used to her new reality.I loved Samantha. She's just a normal person, going about her business when she gets hit with the duchess thing. She doesn't let it go to her head, she just wants to go on with her life as usual, but that just isn't going to happen. She has some great moments from the time she goes to her meeting with the duchess right through the next day as she copes with the onslaught of media attention. One thing she has going for her is the able assistance of Prince Alex, who has promised that he won't "throw her to the wolves." She's attracted to him, but he's the prince and way out of her league. He's there for her every step of the way, and he's the one that ultimately convinces her to go to Lilaria. Samantha isn't sure that she's able to do everything a duchess is expected to do but with the help of Alex and others she really starts to settle in. That attraction she feels for Alex is still there, but there's also a real friendship and more that's growing between them also. Alex has made it clear that he's interested in more, but giving in scares her because of the responsibility that would go with it.Alex is terrific. He may have been a bit of a playboy prince AKA Prince Yummy, but his latest troubles have pretty well cured him of that. He was drawn to Samantha from the minute he met her. He loves the way that she isn't particularly awed by his title and treats him in a normal manner. He's determined to help her get used to her new world. I loved the way that he anticipates her needs and is right there to help and support her. Alex also has a pretty great sense of humor and some of the conversations between the two of them are pretty funny. The more time he spends with Samantha the more he realizes that she is exactly who he wants. He makes his interest in her pretty clear, but he also doesn't try to rush her. It's great to see how well he does at helping her get comfortable in her new role. I loved his patience with her fears and how he was willing to wait for as long as it took. Things really started to heat up once they got together. The ending was sad and sweet and perfect for the book. I loved Alex's rescue of her and how everyone was there for her when she needed them. I also loved his nervousness on the day of her ceremony and what he did that was so special.I also liked the supporting cast. Each of them added extra dimension to the story. One of my favorites was Chadwick, her personal assistant. I loved seeing everything he did to help her settle in and also the care he obviously felt for her. I loved seeing the way he was the one to make Samantha see the truth of the feelings she and Alex had for each other.

Adorable. Witty. Fun. Perfect for a quick, light summer read. With a sequel out recently, it’s just in time! Reminiscent of the Amanda Bynes movie, “What a Girl Wants” or Anne Hathaway’s “The Princess Diaries,” what girl wouldn’t want to wake up and find out she’s royalty (or the closest thing to it)? Although entirely implausible, it’s fun to dream. And if dreams came true, this one was written to be fairly believable.Samantha is the total down-to-earth, borderline tomboy, grad student who studies wildlife biology with a focus in falconry (being an Animal Science major, I totally clicked with this). Her best friend is her continual link to style, gossip, and the outside world in general. Alex is the proposed Royal playboy, who is currently staying out of the lime light due to a recent sex scandal started by an ex. His interest in Samantha begins because 1- she has no idea who he is, or what he’s supposedly done, and 2- his country is known for falconry, and he appreciates the shared interest. The main thing I didn’t like was Samantha’s total reticence towards the whole relationship with Alex (because he’s true royalty, while she’s only considered nobility). She tried to talk herself out of it for then entire book, despite the obvious mutual attraction, and his constant reassurance that her arguments were baseless.Once she got over her hang-ups it was a pretty decent story. Can’t wait to catch up on the next two in the series!Rating: 4HEAT Rating: MildReviewed By: Daysie W.Review Courtesy of: My Book Addiction and More

Royal love stories never fail to excite me. Most of us did fantasize that we are royal ourselves though most wouldn’t admit they did. Well, this story by Nichole Chase will bring back those memories again. It’s a fast, easy and fun read. This also reminds me of The Princess Diaries but in a racy and exciting way. I like the way the main characters are build in the start though they do turn flat towards the end because of their predictability. Some characters also aren’t explored enough which make them unconvincing and unimportant. There may be a few gaps and inconsistencies in this book but it allays this with the exciting royal set-up and steamy scenes. I recommend this book if you’re into royal plots with sexual twist.

Every little girl dreams of being a princess, right? Well, maybe not every little girl. In Nichole Chase's novel, Suddenly Royal, the first in a new series, Sam Rousseau has no grand desire to be a princess. Sam is a grad student in wildlife biology and working with raptors when she receives the shocking news that she is the last member of a long lost royal family in the small but wealthy country of Lilaria. The Queen has been looking for her for some time, wanting to reinstate the family lands, wealth, and title on Samantha, making her the Duchess of Rousseau. Uncertain of whether she wants the public life and responsibilities that come with all of this, Sam weighs her choices with the help of Crown Prince Alex, the heir to the Lilarian throne and the man her hilarious and straight-talking roommate has nicknamed Prince Yummy. Sam and Alex have an almost immediate attraction to and understanding of each other but it is the idea that Sam can get access to an outstanding cancer doctor to help her beloved step-father, who is enduring treatments for prostate cancer, that decides Sam to take up the mantle of her heritage and postpone her dream of a Master's degree. It isn't without misgivings that she leaves her ill father behind in Minnesota to finish out his chemo regimen and heads to Lilaria. She doesn't speak the language and she is staggered by the ferocity of public interest in her but she doesn't change from the casual, down to earth person she was when she was simply a poor grad student, which ultimately endears her to her new people. And of course, Alex promises not to throw her to the wolves, to help her through the transition to such a different life, giving them every opportunity to spend time together, trying to resist the inevitable. Alex and Sam agree to be friends but the sexual tension surrounding them remains thick. And when they finally come together, the question is whether Sam can overcome her overwhelming fear of losing the people she loves and her feeling of inferiority to Alex because of her American background and grab the life she wants to live. The story is a sweet fairy tale with touches of sorrow but it's also a sexy and hot romance. The main characters are both incredibly likable and the secondary characters are fun and interesting in their own right. It's an overall light and engaging read but one that doesn't minimize the struggles of real life and shows some of the disadvantages of what is a very privileged life. Fans of straight contemporary romance should thoroughly enjoy it and look forward to the sequel.

3.5 Stars | Moderate SteamSuddenly Royal is a sweet, sassy and sexy modern day fairy tale. I spent my weekend swept up in the well-spun adventures of the feisty and likeable Samantha as she embarks on her newly discovered life as a royal duchess.Suddenly Royal’s fantasy is nicely grounded in reality by plenty of authentic and plucky stand-out characters. Of course Alex, resident royal heart-throb and modern day Prince Charming steals the show. It’s impossible not fall for Prince Alex. He is a pure gentleman: chivalrous, strong, thoughtful and kind. He’s also all delectable man: magnetic, playful & wickedly sexy. Alex’s pursuit of Samantha is both old fashioned and hotly intense. His patience and persistence is greatly rewarded. When Samantha finally gives into her feelings for Alex, their ardor explodes on the pages with sizzling love scenes and wildly romantic shared moments between the new couple. I loved Alex the friend and flirt but became completely smitten with Alex the lover and devout boyfriend by the end of the story.I enjoyed this lively and seductive fairy tale and I look forward to reading Princess Catherine’s HEA in Recklessly Royal (Suddenly #2).

Going in to Suddenly Royal, I was hoping for a quick, fun and entertaining read that would have me smiling a lot. I'm happy to report that those qualities are in abundance. Samantha is a quick-witted, sarcastic and sometimes infuriating character who I very much enjoyed reading, and Alex fully lives up to his nickname of Prince Yummy. I found this book extremely engaging, and very much enjoyed my time spent in its pages.Anyone reading the summary is probably struck with some similarities to The Princess Diaries or The Prince & Me, and there definitely are things that that are the same between those titles and this one. However, I liked that the "princess" (she's actually a duchess) in this book is an adult; she's a Master's student who's had to deal with the death of her mother and her father's struggle with cancer, so she's already had to deal with some difficult experiences. This makes Samantha a character with a lot of depth, and an interesting back story that very much influences her actions, thoughts and feelings, not only toward Alex, but the whole idea of reclaiming her Lilarian title. I very much enjoyed reading about her personal journey as she struggled with her place in this new and unknown world.Alex is described as a playboy in the summary, but that didn't really come across so much in the book itself. I liked that he was thoughtful and caring, and willing to help Samantha through her struggles. I liked the way he slowly brought her around to the idea of a relationship, and very much liked that he didn't push her and was willing to go at her pace and only move forward with her permission. This is so often not the case in books today that I couldn't help but find the slow growth of their relationship all the more satisfying. If you're tired of books where the guy and girl immediately fall into bed with each other, then this will be a refreshing change!Suddenly Royal also had a lot of depth to it. The world of Lilaria, the customs the people follow, and the royalty who dominate the upper echelon of society were all well-crafted. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see this world through Sam's eyes, particularly her smiles and gasps of astonishment as something new was revealed to her. The descriptions were first rate and really helped place the reader in the narrative. Some of my favorite parts were when Sam got to experience the city and surrounding countryside (and I am SO jealous of that bookstore!). I also liked that this wasn't just a "cute" read. Sam goes through a lot, experiences a lot, and it really helped keep the book grounded. I liked the inside look at all that being a duchess entails, and everything Sam was going to be responsible for. In a "cute" read you don't always get to see the struggles, and I very much liked that those were included here. While the premise behind Suddenly Royal perhaps isn't the most original, there is enough within the book's pages to keep anyone engaged in the story. The two main characters are wonderfully drawn and constructed, and are surrounded by a fabulous supporting cast, all set in a unique world that's described so perfectly you can see it in your mind. It looks like this is the first in a new series, and I'm really excited to see what's next for Sam and Alex (no drama, please!). If you're looking for a fun, summer read, do give this one a try!A copy of this book was provided by Inkslinger PR for blog tour purposes.
