About this ebook
The powerful story of a boy's fear and courage in the face of a force of nature too huge to even imagine.
Based on Hurricane Mitch's devastation of Honduras in 1998, Terry Trueman's acclaimed Hurricane is a gripping, realistic story told from the perspective of a hurricane survivor.
After hours of cowering in the dark with no lights, no warmth, and the terrible noises of the rain and wind pounding on the walls, José walks out his front door and steps into a nightmare. Everything is gone. Everything except for the desperate courage of those who survived that terrifying night.
But his nightmare has only begun as he and the few who are left in his small village dig for survivors, search for food and water, and try to start pulling their lives back together.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is about two brothers whose day starts out like normal until a storm hits. It is based off of a true story and how the family and island survived. This would be a good book to read to students everywhere but especially to students here in south Louisiana. I think it would be a good idea to read this to students to see the view point of someone going through a hurricane who did not live in the states but on an island and to see how things must be handled differently.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Five stars for the artwork (massive, alluring, louring), three and a half for the prose (a bit overwritten but it is about a hurricane after all), but only two stars for the narrative (reads like a third grade "what I did on my holidays" presentation). Why are so many kids' books unable to transcend what was obviously the author's personal experience? E.g., I don't know that "Triste" is the name of your dog, do I? Why locate it specifically in Puerto Rico? How does that help me put myself in the narrator's shoes? But those illustrations. Yes!
