In a small village called
Ginje,
in the vicinity of
Visoko
, arch. Faris Ličina reportedaccidental archaeological discoveries of great importance. We went to see.

Premise
: The definition of tumulus-

A
tumulus
(in Latin a hillock or small mound) is a structure of soil and stones placedover a grave. Other terms used are mound, barrow, or cairn. A
tumulus
can be round, square, stepped and/or flat-topped, it can have more or less pyramidal forms etc.Burial
tumuli
or mounds can be found throughout the world.Less than 300 meters distant from the crest of site n° 2 lies the triple-stepped burial tumulusof
Ginje
; aerial distance approximately equal to 270 m/ 885.826’. The tumulus is divided fromthe ‘temple hill’ (apparently shaped as rising half-moon) by few corn fields and a small creekflowing through the farmland. The triple-stepped structure, only a few meters high (approx.5-6 meters but its exact height still has to be measured) seems the ‘primitive model’ of anEgyptian small step pyramid (ex. the
Sinki
pyramid south of Abydos today only 4 meters high).Dr. Aly Barakat suggested it closely resembles another small pyramidal-like burial in Meidum,Egypt, while Dr. Abu Bakr Moussa, conservation specialist from Cairo University and co-lecturer of Dr. Aly Barakat and me at the 1
st
ICBP 2008, has pointed out some very important details regarding the architecture and artificial nature of the structure. Together with Dr. AlyBarakat, he took the exact size and magnetic orientation of the stone blocks and structure. Theartificial nature of the flat-topped tumulus, starting from its base, is clearly evident. The hugerectangular stone blocks impressive in size 2x1.4x1m and weight (estimated weight approx. 8tons each) bedded on the top of the structure are visibly shaped and cut by man. Today, great part of the structure is covered with grass and trees, but few stone blocks sticking out of thesoil on certain points in the structure, and in visible lower rows than those bedded on the top, seems to be the indication of a massive artificial core hidden beneath the soil surface.

Notice
: The two stone blocks were obtained from two different raw materials. The block onthe left side from fine-grained sandstone, the block on the right side from small to mediumgrained conglomerate.
