SEFTON COUNCIL

The Special resonsibility (SRA) and Basic Allowances are shown as gross amountys but the allowances are subject to Income Tax and NationalInsurance contributions, and therefore Members receive a net amount.Sefton Council's Scheme of Members' allowances is made under powers conferred by Section 174 of the Local Government Act 1972. LocalAuthorities (Members' Allowances)(England) Regulations 2003.The scheme is intended to recognise the time commitment of Councillors, and is designed to ensure Members are not placed at a financialdisadvantage whilst serving the residents of Sefton. All councillors receive a standard basic allowance to cover basic duties and all Council-businesstravel within the Borough. In addition, there are a number of Special Responsibility Allowances to reflect additional responsibilities.Members may be nominated to represent the Council on outside bodies, such as the Merseyside Police Authority, Fire and Civil Defence Authorityetc and may receive further allowances from these bodies.
