Paper-Folding with Interactive Geometry SoftwareExploring the folding of paper circles and trianglesusing interactive geometry software
By Colin McAllister August 2010

Abstract
T
he Huzita-Justin paper-folding Axiom 5, adapted for a circle, isexplored using interactive geometry software.
T
he axiom isgeneralised to other shapes, and applied to a triangle with roundedcorners. An interesting configuration of folds is discovered whenthe triangle is equilateral.
T
he properties of this configuration areexplained by drawing a circle, of which the folds are diameters. Anadjustable simulation of a folded paper triangle is used todemonstrate this explanation. A folding hypothesis is postulatedfor arbitrary shapes.

Huzita-Hatori Axiom 5³Given two points p1 and p2 and a line l1we can make a fold that places p1 onto l1and passes through the point p2.´
