How to create an Ezine in 4 Easy steps
You know you need an ezine. You know it is one of the quickest and cheapestways to reach your customers. But you’re stuck on where to start – html or text? – what to write about?Remember KISS – Keep it Simple for Success! Most email readers can now read html ezines and statistics show that htmltemplates are read more, but I personally think both html and text ezines workwell. I subscribe to many that use both techniques.HTML allows you to be more creative and colorful. You can brand your companylogo, put your picture and just have a bit more fun with this style.Text is quick and easy – great for doing ‘Tip of the Week’ and for promoting aparticular product or service. Just remember not to be too long winded, becausenobody likes to scroll down endless text! Many of my clients ask “What do I write about?”If you are writing a monthly or bi-weekly ezine, you might want to use aNewsletter format because your customers aren’t hearing from you every day soyou can give them more information than you can with a quick text ezine. Here’s a formula that works well:1.Always have your picture, logo and title of the ezine at the top. This addspowerful personalization and branding. If you are not comfortable withusing your picture, you can have a caricature, or cartoon type sketchinstead. If you going for a more serious tone or corporate feel, you canexclude the picture, but make your logo bold.2.Follow with a snippet of a personal story that will link to your main articleeg: I’m on vacation in Hawaii and my virtual assistant is sending this outfor me. See my article below on why you should hire a virtual assistantand free up your life! Or you can just use a lighthearted tone to set themood – reference something funny or unusual in your industry or thenews.3.Before your article – place a product/service ad – or what is tagged a ‘Callto Action’. This is a great place to put this because you’ve got your reader’s attention. Don’t be heavy handed with the sales pitch – just keepit brief, simple and focus on the benefit eg: My Lunchtime Call this monthwill be about xyz. If you want to register do so now (or join my LunchtimeClub here)
