Articles ___ The monumental facsimile edition of prints collected by polymath Johann Weikhard Freiherr von Valvasor (1641-1693) was published in Slovenia in 2008. Facsimiles of the Iconotheca Valvasoriana collection were produced by the Janez Vajkard Valvasor Foundation at the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences in Ljubljana. Iconotheca Valvasoriana encompasses a total of 7,752 prints and drawings by Duerer, Cranach, Rembrandt, Callot and other German, Austrian, Dutch, Flemish, French, Italian, English and Carinthian masters of 16th and 17th centuries. Valvasor purchased the art during 14 years of travel in Europe. Valvasor arranged them by theme, technique and nationality of the authors. The project leader and editor of the edition is art historian Dr. Lojze Gostiša. Each document is critically commented in three languages; Slovenian, Croatian, and English. The National and University Library (NUK) in Ljubljana has received the collection. This edition has 100 copies, 17 large-size volumes bound in leather, and is sold to collectors at 30,000 EUR each. On 25 March 2010 the President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr. Danilo Turk gifted the collection to the Royal Society of London, which is celebrating its 350th Anniversary. Valvasor became a member of the prestigious society in 1687 for his study of the hydrology of the intermittent Lake Cerknica.
