The following are "verses of interest" from the Old Testament based on the New King James version, copyright 1982. Most versions of the Old Testament of the Bible have either 39 or 51 books (depending on Protestant or Catholic Bibles), 929 chapters, 27,570 verses, and 593,493 words. Not all versions of the Old Testament of the Bible are the same, with differences in the selection of books between Catholic (51 books in the Old Testament) and Protestant (39 books in the Old Testament) sects. In the 1952 edition of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, 32 biblical scholars of the highest eminence backed by 50 cooperating denominations eliminated certain verses (including the Comma Johanneum, 1 John 5:7-8) as fabrications, only to have them added back in the 1971 edition due to public pressure from 2 of the denominations to re-insert the fabrications. CLASSIFICATION: * = notable verses, ** = verses to remember, *** = debate points, ***** = verses about Divinity. RANKING: # = minor verses, ### = major verses, #### = historical references, ##### = crucial verses.
