On November 30, 2011, CREW filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the FBI seeking copies of all guidance concerning the disposition of records generated by FBI investigations. CREW made this request in light of documents it received from the FBI’s investigation of John Murtha, which suggested the agency was disposing of evidence upon the completion of investigations.
